I am leaving the VA homeless shelter on Friday for my new apartment. I will celebrate my new home by making and baking the chicken and lemon pie. I'll have to use Franks RedHot Sauce since we don't get that brand here in SoCal. I retired 3 years ago being a Navy cook and chef for the better part of the last 30 years and I have never looked so forward to making a recipe as I am right now! PS: Haggen Dazs Chocolate is the best! Hell, ANY flavor of HD is the best!

Thank you very much, LaLa. I'm one of the lucky ones and getting out of here and back on my own in less than 6 months. But I've been fighting to get back on my own feet since Day 1. I'm just thankful I had a string of bad luck and not one of the vets that have serious demons plaguing their lives. All I dreamed about last night was that chicken so I have to get my own place now! lol

@@headie3737 thank you so very much. I'm one if the lucky ones as quite a few of the veterans in my situation are in shelters a lot longer than I've been here. I found the right place at the right time. And I want to wish you all the best. I cannot begin to comprehend what life is like where you are, under such extremes. Here's hoping that smart people and peace prevail soon.

Thank you for the video. A suggestion ...I think your suppose to use some of the pan drippings from all the fried chicken to make a rue and create the dripping sauce. These people wouldnt have wasted anything, and they wouldnt have just thrown out the drippings. If they did make a rue, the rue would probably just be made with water, no stock or cream. Also, you wouldnt want to cook the rue very long after adding water or it would thicken and be gravy.

I've been craving fried chicken for a few months now, so I've been rummaging through lots on online recipes and videos so I can goddamn make it myself; you can't find good fried chicken in Denmark for love nor money. (You can get "okay" fried chicken - which is still good, of course - but it's just... Not right!) It's all part of the project of making my boyfriend realise that US food is not, in fact, crap. And actually there are some US dishes that I know he will absolutely love.

Both of these recipes look phenomenal! It is kind of sort of like Nashville hot chicken, but without all the oil or lard or whatever coats it after it's fried. It actually sounds even better. The trick is going to be to get Texas Pete Hot Sauce out here in southern Nevada. I love the line where Brian says he wants to eat this stuff in a dark room with his shirt off. That sounds like a real man right there. I can definitely relate. I have you eaten ribs that way before when it was just me doing a little experiment with my smoker.

That chicken is do tasty and left me wanting to make some also. As for the ice cream I love Blue Bell best and glad they didn't go to the smaller containers like other companies did. The lemon pie is looking great and I order pies from Swan's since they make their own and some for other companies also I have one of their pies in my freezer now and will devour it by myself in maybe three servings. I would love to be there to clean the mixing bowl which the icing was made in for the pie.

May I share a small hack? When in a hurry and would want to have the taste of overnight marinated chicken? Toss the chicken in the marinade CONTINUOUSLY for a solid 10 (ten) minutes. The flavor is the same as if it was marinated overnight. I do this for a local Philippine dish called LECHON MANOK ( which translates to roasted chicken- Philippine cuisine style). Try it and give me your feedbacks.
