I grew up in San diegoand we had a fig tree in our yard, so I grew up eating them, but we only ate them fresh. Now I live in Serbia and figs are abundant but expensive at 4$ per 1 kilo., , fortunately I can get from tree of an abandoned house so we get them for free.,.Thank you for his recipe!

I should have left mine in a pot for a couple more years too. It’s too young and not doing so good outside.

I live in new jersey i planted my brown turkey fig tree directly into the ground...but the first Two winters i wrapped them up with a blanket then a water proof tarp ...no black color...and thats it no more wrapping because the branches are thick enough to take the cold...i get two crops..spring and fall ...fall crop is the heaviest yield...if you leave figs on the tree too long and you get a lot of rain during ripening time they will burst open like a flower...🖖

They were fine wrapped? Even though they didn’t have light/sun at all?

@@ladyleeshome yes leaves drop off in the fall then get the limbs tied up as small a diameter as you can…use something thick enough as to not cut into the limb bark then wrap as above …take wrapping down to the ground as best you can and have some vent holes at the top to vent any moisture…as soon as hard freezing is over and birds are chirping remove wrapping…my fig bush is a late spring bloomer…good luck…🖖

Thanks so much for the recipe! This is the first year my fig tree has yielded a good amount of fruit so I want to try the jam. When you say it lasts in the refrigerator a long time without canning, what do you consider a long time? I think I'm going to start with a small batch for a test run and won't need to can.

@@ladyleeshome according to what I read before I bought it, a Chicago Hardy Fig can produce a lot of fruit. Mine is still young. I did not expect fruit in its first year. I have seven baby figs on the tree right now. I had it in my bathroom because it gets lots of indirect light. Here in South Carolina it is now warm enough to put outside. I am going to keep it in a pot that can be brought in for the winter. I may order one or two more of them. I love figs and can’t wait to make your jam recipe!

@@janetmassa2061 they are my absolute favorite too! I planted my tree last year. I didn’t think that it survived the winter but it came back late spring. I was so happy. Having even a little bit of fruit the first year is amazing! I don’t have fruit yet.

Fantastic video, My favourite jam too. Can you explain to me please the meaning of "processing" the jam. Does it cook the jam even longer or.... ? Thanks RR ☘️ "Ireland

@ladyleeshome Жыл бұрын
Processing in the water bath canner. It doesn’t really cooks the jam further but more like processes the jars so they are sealed and can be kept at room temperature.

Don’t the lemon seeds make the jam bitter?

They don’t! Even if you can them with the jam they don’t. But it’s easy enough to remove them if you petered that.

15 minutes, that an awfully long time. Books say start with 5 minutes and add a minute for each thousand additional feet above sea level
@ladyleeshome
@ladyleeshome 2 жыл бұрын
Processing for more than 10 minutes eliminates the need to sanitize the jars. Just make sure that if you process for less than 10 minutes you sanitize the jars before. I always do 15 minutes and it works great for me. But there is always more than one way to do something.

OMG. Those figs are not ripe! Cook jam with RIPE, purple, soft fruits, not the green ones she is working with. Ripe figs recipe needs NO SUGAR added. Take this video off...all wrong.
@ladyleeshome
@ladyleeshome 6 күн бұрын
There are many varieties of green figs that ripen green. And for long term storage at room temperature, in other words a jam that is going to be canned, you do want some sugar there. I cut it in half, but still, it’s important. Thanks for watching.
