Hello everyone! A lot of people appreciated my more methodical videos on ideas and concepts, so today I am very excited to start with a mini-series on generative modular music. Fair WARNING, this is NOT for complete beginners and assumes quite some knowledge on basics and utilities. If you are new, please scout my channel and start with videos like ‘how to make a good synth voice’, ‘Why you need utilities’, ‘All you need to know about envelopes, and so on. All the best!

At 3:50 you have written both Sampe and hold (line 2) d Sample and hold (Line 3). You take such great care in your videos and schematics, it thought you’d like to know we are actually reading them! Thank you for another inspiring video!

Hey, thanks! I mostly set up illustrations and sections I can copy and paste, so I can't make any mistakes with my slight dyslexia, but the not-flow-chart ones are alwys dangerous. Thanks for watching!

Really useful. I was happy to be introduced to ideas for modules I have in my gear already. Nice!

Glad it was helpful! And trying to inspire people to pick things up rather than giving the them the feeling they need to buy more stuff. Happy that worked out :)

"... this should give you some FUN-DA-MENTAL ideas..." 😂😂😂 Great clip, incredibly useful ideas as ever, thanx a lot for sharing those. I used the Serge TKB as a 16-step / 4 channel statememory with CV controlled recall, recently. Insanely great!

Love this so much. Great advice, this coming from someone who started with max msp in 2003. Really looking forward to your ideas on creating change over time. PS a really wonderful example of "generative" music is "Engine" by Rafael Toral which i believe was on Touch Records around 2004 or something. It starts out with self modifying analog and then it starts slowing down and then something magical happens around 20 minutes in.

Nice, will have a look for that!

Hello, I'm starting with eurorack, I bought Nifty Case with the Cellz + Chipz module and I bought Behringer Brains, how would you recommend expanding it further? definitely some drum bass module and what next?
@MonotrailTechTalkАй бұрын
Hi there! There are a million options these days :) At the start, stay close to the reason you got attracted to eurorack in the first place, and expand one module at at time.

I’m sure many systems out there feature one or other iteration of Pamela’s Workout- this provides eight channels of either smooth or stepped random voltage. Plus, being Pam’s, there is a colossal range of tempos and division/multiplication options.
@MonotrailTechTalkАй бұрын
Yes, excellent module for the job!
@russ254Ай бұрын
don’t have Pams in my software Voltage Modular - appreciate this video not being locked in to a particular module, but rather focus on module functions. helpful comment for people with Pams though ❤

In time it will become clearer. Try pausing on and following one of the diagrams in VCV Rack. It's helpful to patch it up yourself to really hear, see, and learn what each part is doing. VCV can be great if you don't have all the modules necessary for a specific patch.

I found you can’t take shortcuts with modular - I spent a year figuring out the basic 22 modules in the free Voltage Modular Nucleus. That taught me basic concepts like LFOs, amps, sequencers, attenuation, inverters - and also how to combine simple modules into complicated things. highly recommend free Voltage Modular Nucleus, AND NOT ADDING more modules until you know those 22 COLD! ❤
