Thanks! They've been enjoying it, and I'm slowly building my collection, so we're going to be using it more and more. The molds come from Hirst Arts. Just do a quick google and you'll find them. The two that I have are the Fieldstone Basic Block Mold #701 ($34) and the Cracked Floor Tiles Mold #203 ($29) plus $7 shipping to Canada. They have a bunch of other great molds.

Rather than dry brushing I use a sponge. The first stage is a 'wash' with a darker base coat. I like a greenish tint, so I use a Burnt umber with equal parts moss green, and then a bit of antique white. Add 50% water and use a sponge to wash the tiles. You can do a whole batch in minutes. After that dries I do a second stage. This with more antique white and a bit less burnt umber so its lighter. Then gather a hint of the mix on a sponge and 'dab' it onto the tile. You'll get the same effect as a dry brush, but you can do it a LOT faster.

Thanks for the tip. Since this video, I've moved on to Krylon's matte finish clear coat. I still have my can of glossy finish which I apply first, then the matte finish. Apparently applying the thicker gloss coat first helps better protect the pieces from dings.

I talk a bit more about the plaster I use in part one of the how-to, but it's been fine. The dental plaster is cheaper in the long run, but the artist plaster is convenient and has held up well. My cat knocked a finished piece onto the floor recently, and, aside from a block of wall coming unglued (which was easily fixed), the only damage was a small chip from a corner of a floor tile. Once I touched it up, it looked better than ever.

Cool, thanks! I'm moving into my first house in August, so I'll have a lot more room to expand my terrain supplies.

I'm not sure which set/mold they came from. They were an 'extra' that Ben threw into the package of pieces he sent me. They're still only partially painted. I have the tree trunks painted but haven't braved the mushrooms yet.

How is the regular plaster you picked up? I am in canada also and its hard to find the dental plaster so I would have to use what I can find at michaels also. Just wondering what you take on it is, or should I make the trip and get the dental plaster? Thanks for your time.

What are the mushroom looking pieces from Ben at 1:26? Are they a Hirst Arts mold or custom pieces?

Soooo I'm trying to reproduce your color scheme, and it's not going very well lol. I know 2 of my problems though. 1) I need better brushes! and 2) I think I need a darker grey color. I'm using a revere pewter that my wife had laying around. But I do have some questions... 1) during the first and second coats, how "hard" are you applying pressure on the brush?

Thanks for the question. When I first apply the paint I use very light brush strokes, since there's very little on the brush, I don't want it to come off all in one place. I also stroke the brush across the whole length of the tile to distribute the paint as evenly as possible. Once that is done, I increase the pressure and speed of my brushing to spread the paint out, again, to make it as even as possible, and to avoid the paint from filling in the crevices and make the texture of the tile stand out. Please let me know how you're doing and if you have any other questions. Good Luck!
