How to Make Homemade PupLoaf

Over the years I have made many versions of PupLoaf. The latest version was designed to eliminate the need for a lot of costly supplements and allow you to balance the diet with whole foods.
Complete PupLoaf Recipe:
3 pounds beef 90% lean
8 ounces beef heart
5 ounces beef liver
20 ounces chicken gizzards
3 cans sardines in water, minus the juice
6 ounces mussels (3 teaspoons kelp could replace the mussels for trace minerals)
2 teaspoons ground fresh ginger
5 eggs with shell
3 ounces red pepper
5 ounces mixed dark leafy greens (kale, chard, spinach)
4 ounces broccoli
6 ounces butternut squash
3 tablespoons flaxseed oil
4 ounces cranberries
4 ounces Shiitake mushrooms
Grind and mix all ingredients together. Pour into loaf, casserole, or muffin pans. Bake at 325 for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the pan; should be lightly done, not overcooked (juicy in the center). If your pet has a beef or chicken allergy, turkey could be substituted.
Use within 3 to 5 days, freeze extra portions. Feed warmed to room temperature.

Since I like that you are a vet, I tend to trust you more than many that are online. I think it would be WONDERFUL if you and the hubby could publish COOKBOOKS with recipes for different things to cook for dogs with no problems, and those with specific problems. Thank you Dr Judy,was on at the same time. I live in France so the hours are different. I to like you have a little darling Cavalie called Julie . Julie is 14 years old and was a little rescue. Recently about a week ago she had a urine problem wetting the bed every night which is not like her and about 4 days ago i saw a little spotting of blood. Since then I fed her yogurt and some apple cider bio vinegar and never saw the blood again but she still wets perhaps one time every night. I feed her for the past 8 years on home cooked food that I make for her fresh every day. i steam all the veg,and cook in coconut oil for the meat and steam her fish too and add sardines and eggs also to her meal during the week. Recently i have started to give her a little porridge 10grams with yogurt,honey,apple cider vinegar and coconut oil and a sprinke of chia seeds all mixed together and she is loving it and then her lunch a few hours later . today i made her 60grams ground red meat,30grams fresh heart cooked in a little coconut oil with steamed pumpkin,brocoli,and a little sweet potato and quinoa,and just a sprinkle of fresh garlic. What can I do to help her more with her urine problem. I tried to give a little cranberry juice to her drink after breakfast but she would not take it. Julie has only 3 teeth left and the top one is very shaky and the vet said to leave it alone and it will fall out on it's own I brush it every day to keep it clean,and i notice too that it makes her have a lot of snorting and sounds like a stuffed up nose,i rub a little coconut oil on it to keep it clean. When she had the urine problem I noticed that when I was picking her up she felt slightly sticky underneath and her little tip of her I don't know the name where she wet's herself had a little like sticky mucas but it is not there these past few days . Would be so grateful for your advice.Thanking you

I watched your presentation on the Wellness Summit for Animals today and loved it. So now I'm here and I was wondering about shitake mushrooms as well as cranberries. I live in a small town in southern Italy and shitakes appeared once in the big supermarket and then never again. Fresh or frozen cranberries are not available and most of the dried ones have sugar and cost a fortune, same goes for fresh blueberries or blackberries. I'm pretty sure I can get powdered shitakes in capsules online, should I go that route? What about the cranberries? Maybe I can find unsweetened cranberry juice. Thank you.

There are reasonably priced grinders. A vitamix probably won't hold enough. A food processor could be used, but again, won't hold a ton.

Trying to understand here... The basic puploaf in the book is not complete. So we have to go to the section where it talks about the additions. Correct? However, if I did add in something like raw vibrance or paradigm then it would be complete? And this would be ok for longer-term. I do understand varieties is best so have to change things up. But for it to be complete is it ok to just add the Dr Harveys stuff on top of the basic pup load instructions? Is it ok to cook the raw vibrance or add that at the time of feeding?

Hi, normal recommendation is 2-3 % of their body weight. But you want to keep an eye on how they are doing? If they are loosing weight you can increase and feed more and if they are gaining weight you can cut down a little.

Here's some perspective on veal and to dispel the guilt: Chickens, not layers, that you eat are no more than 6 months old when butchered. That puts them right around the age of a calf when they get butchered for veal.

Grape SKIN and PULP have been associated with renal failure in dogs and cats. Grapes and raisins are definitely out. The grape SEED, however, is not toxic but loaded with beneficial Omega-6 fatty acids and other plant constituents. Both grape seed oil and extract contribute to healthier tissue, shiner coat, stronger teeth and gums, and a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer.

So my Cavalier is 1.5 years old, we have her on Stella and Chewy raw lamb and Fromm Puppy Gold, Some K&D and a bit of Fromm adult flavors cut-in. She has not really been that into food, so not Cavalier, I have been hand feeding her the frozen raw and boiling salmon and cod to get her to eat and now finally she is eating on her own, both the raw and on occasion she has a craving for the kibble. It is time to transition her to adult food. She has no health issues and we want to keep it this way. Is this recipe for older and sick dogs? Do you have a preventive medicine recipe I would want to make to replace the Stella and Chewy brand with? We are showing her and though she is a late bloomer we want to optimize her maturing bones and organs and of course, outward appearance and coat.
