@@vivianvanderschelden5278 It doesn't take a loooong time but it takes a "minute". It is part of the process but well worth it. It will get the skins and seeds out which will make your sauce so much healthier and richer. A few more minutes (and mess) will yield the best sauce you have ever eaten!

This video is exactly what I was hoping for. I did not want to peel the tomatoes and thought "why not a food mill". This was perfect and I love how you just toss everything in. I am using my mother's Foley Food Mill that she had before I was born - which means it's over 75 years old. It is heavy aluminum and I questioned using it for tomatoes but I suppose it will be fine. She used it and we kids never got sick. LOL Thought about getting a new one in stainless steel but not worth it for as many times as it will be used.

Yes they are the best to us because you don’t have to cook the tomatoes down for as long because they are not as much juice in them and don’t throw away your skins, dehydrated them and use them in your cooking.

I'll answer this question. If you let it simmer with the lid off a lot of the water will evaporate and that is what will thicken the sauce.

Hello, Mary. I have an old Champion juicer and I still have all the screens for it. I was thinking that while we still have on-grid power, I'd like to use that for processing sauces like this. Can you tell me what screen would be appropriate for making sauces and screening out all the skins and peels and bits? Or do you think the Champion would be too fast or too powerful to process the veggies without turning it all to liquid? What do you know? I was also wondering if there is a stand-mixer attachment similar to this food mill. Now that I know about this food mill, I'll have to get at least one, so I can make sauces when the lights go out for awhile. (Thank you!)

Well I'm trying this out. I do have some concerns about not removing the skin on the onions and the garlic and not removing the top of the tomatoes. My worry is that what if there was bacteria hidden there. Thanks

Mam putting garlic and onion with skin should have harmful farming chemicals... it's safer to remove them...and tomatoes to be washed with bicard of soda properly... it's not only about being easy to make.. do it safely... also by peeling off the skin's...the leftover pulp can be used for other recipe's...
