Sealing prior to using resin also reduces or eliminates air bubble’s escaping from the wood. Good info as always thanks and stay safe.

Even Xtools P2 fully enclosed laser (which I own) does not meet laser safety guidelines. The covers do provide better eye protection, but there remain several safety issues that should be resolved.

So I already have an Xtool F1. As well as a LM3 with the 20W laser upgrade. I was in the market for a new device. And I’ve been wanting the S1. But I also wanted to do some custom inlay stuff and was looking at foxalien CNC machines. The info is sparse and it seems like it could be a money sink. Seeing this. It looks like I can still accomplish what I want without a cnc. So looks like it’s the Xtool S1 40w for me. THANK YOU for the video

Got some hints for you. EV resin is made for silicone molds were you can shine the light through both sides of the mold for complete curing. You’re getting away with it using translucent dies. I use 2 part resin that is quite cheaper on black acrylic with opaque coloring. None of my castings have taken more than 8 hours. I use a heated pad that also takes care of bubbles. No torch or heat gun. You might want to invest in a respirator for sanding I understand the dust from resin can be nasty I’m finishing up a license plate with Magi Karp for my daughter in Florida. I’ll send you a picture when it’s complete. Over all very nice video.

Oh, wow! I didn’t know that about UV resin. It makes sense. I do have some 2 part epoxy I bought over the summer to make a tabletop ( I never ended up using it) so maybe I should use that instead. As for a respirator it’s my goal in 2024 to take better care of my lungs and start wearing a respirator more often. I even bought a new one and lots of replacement filters for it! Thank you

I'm going to highly encourage you to get a heat gun for degassing epoxy. Open flame in the shop is pretty dang risky. I picked up a "cheap" one at Harbor Freight, mainly to heat shrink insulation around electrical fittings. But it works really good to heat and melt bees wax on my cutting boards. :^) It has lasted 9 years now and still working fine (now I just jinxed myself!). Watching your last video I was thinking it would be very cool if you had some LED lights behind the epoxy inlay to make it glow. Something to think about for a special project. Note:Plain glass will absorb UV B so I wonder if placing the epoxy behind glass won't slow down the curing. I don't know what UV band does most of the work and my experience with UV adhesives if very limited (my dentist is fond of them!). When you burn away wood for the inlay, do you have to do much clean up of the burned area to prep it for your inlay, be it wood or epoxy - other than the wood sealer?

Thank you. I have a heat gun and I should use it. :) when I burn for inlay I do zero clean up. That’s because I end up sanding it in the end. If I do wood inlay. , sometimes I might wipe the surface with denatured alcohol. I don’t seal for wood inlay just for epoxy or paint

Good information though I disagree about open frame lasers. Yes, by themselves they are not the safest, but if you put them in an enclosure with fume extraction and buy a good quality pair of laser safety glases it should be safe. Any tool can be dangerous, but if the proper safety precautions are taken, you should be okay. As for the charing if you cover the area you are going to engrave with vinyl transfer tape you won't have any charing.

You are correct. However you should see some of the emails I get from subscribers. People use open frames lasers in small apartments without enclosures, modified lasers and add crosshairs but completely remove the protective laser cover, use laser without glasses, leave the laser unattended and then are surprised they started a fire….. You have to remember there are a lot of people without knowledge of the dangers and there are people that are just missing common sense.

I don't think lipstick and mascara would work as well as resin for those inlays.
