I know I’m a little late, but what could you substitute the brown swerve for; can I use maple syrup or molasses?
@blacksheepketo3 жыл бұрын
@@duwayneshearer915 It's basically a brown sugar substitute. If you're not trying to keep it keto (just guessing by the maple syrup/molasses ideas), then brown sugar is the way to go.

My pie took a lot longer to cook than 40 minutes, about 60-70 minutes. You guys must try this recipe!! If nobody had told me it was keto, I would not have believed it. This is also my first time using allulose. The allulose is easy to work with. I bought the Splenda Allulose on Amazon. I cant wait to make this again and I want to try this crust with another kind of pie. Thank you for sharing this and helping us reach our health goals!

Black Sheep Keto I found your videos right before Thanksgiving when I was looking for a keto pumpkin pie. I am new to baking keto recipes. Just learning how to make substitutions for sugar and carbohydrates. Trying to make changes due to my husbands advancing diabetes. I love to cook and bake! It's a love language for me. I had a pity party and cried as I loaded box after box of pantry items for making all my comfort foods and desserts. Gave them all away and restocked with things like allulose, xantham gum, stevia liquid , etc. AFTER watching several of your videos. I made your pumpkin pie recipe and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I couldn't believe how much it tasted the the traditional pie I've made for years. Everyone loved it! I feel like I can do this now... continue to cook and bake food that still tastes good and that my family and friends love. Hoping you will concoct a chocolate cream cheese pound cake recipe next! I'm a dedicated follower from now on 🍰😁

warning: 1 cup of allulose costs about $8; and try to avoid using foil; when u heat aluminum foil, the aluminum goes right into the food, into your bloodstream, and past the blood brain barrier, then causes dementia as it kills the snapse gap between memory cells etc. the ingredients in this recipe look very good indeed, I wd use a ceramic pie plate and invert an empty ceramic pie plate on top of it for cooking to achieve same result.

Man! Great video, Tom! Question: Can you sub other sweeteners for the Allulose?
@blacksheepketo4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. In this case no because you need it to disolve all the way. That corn syrup trick wont work with something like Erythritol because itll crystallize as it cools. I tried a batch where I used erythritol instead of the stevia and allulose and it ended up have a layer of sugar in the pie which was really gritty. From what I understand Xylitol can disolve pretty well, but I don't use the stuff because its toxic to pets. I'm hopeful that allulose becomes more readily available in other countries. Amazon carries it in the US but I'm not sure about worldwide. As a side note, I'm actually working on a video series that I'm tentatively calling "Making It Keto" where I do a deep dive into ingredients and techniques for converting recipes. Most of my recipes are non-keto recipes that I like and I just convert.

@@blacksheepketo HI there, I'm coming to you late but looking for a recipe i can use for Christmas.... in a couple days! This one looks the best I have seen. however, I don't have granulated allulose, I have the liquid (syrup) form. Since it's already liquid, can i use this in place of the one you make in this recipe? I don't want to use any other granulated form as you said it will not work. also, then instead of using it again in the batter can i substitute an alternative granulated sweetener like eryrithritol or monk fruit??? Great recipe!!! Thanks if you, or anyone, can get back with me!

lmao girl 😂 I hate when people be saying they made a recipe but don’t give reviews 😒 you the mvp. I’m thinking of making a keto pecan pie but with a regular pie shell because I’m not on keto . I will make the dough with whole wheat flour instead of white and put olive oil or coconut oil(not sure it’s working) instead of vegetable oil and some erythritol sugar to it. And the for the filling calorie free sugar eggs butter and pecans .. it’s healthy comparing to the original recipe. Lol.

It would be interesting if you take your blood glucose and ketone readings before and a few times after eating a big slice of that pie to confirm that this is indeed a ketogenic recipe.
@blacksheepketo4 жыл бұрын
A couple things. First, a serving size is 1/8th of the pie. So that's about as big of a piece that I would recommend eating. Excessive amounts of sweeteners can cause gas, etc. I didnt have any issues with a single slice, but I could see 3 or 4 slices causing some gastrointestinal issues. Second, what ingredient do you think would cause a glycemic response? All sweeteners used in this recipe are either 0 or 1 on the glycemic index, meaning they do not cause a blood sugar response. I mean I'm not opposed, but those strips arent free and I really dont want to stab myself that many times lol. I test about once a day, more than that and my fingers dont feel great.
@bidnow29464 жыл бұрын
@@blacksheepketo One half of a Keto Brick is 500 calories, 81% fat, and has 7g of monk fruit / stevia. A slice of pecan pie is 455 calories, 85% fat, and has 51g of monk fruit / stevia / Erythrytol / Allulose by my calculations. I understand that this looks good per the studies, but my keto experience alarm bells are ringing. You don't have to test if you don't want. Perhaps somebody else who tries this recipe might be inclined to experiment and post their results "for science."
@blacksheepketo4 жыл бұрын
While I get the point you're trying to make, you're comparing apples and oranges here. Keto bricks are designed to be eaten daily. They're not a "treat", they're a replacement for a meal. This pie is an occasional treat. Calculated using the nutrion labels on our ingredient, its actually about 42g of sweetener per slice. Which is a little more than eating a whole bar of Lily's chocolate(inulin/stevia/erythritol). But remember, we are making what is essentially a sugar pie with nuts on it. Since we can all accept that stevia and erythritol are totally fine. My guess is that your concern is allulose because it's new to the market. I might end up doing a whole video on it at some point, but I have experimented on myself with it to determine tolerance, etc. Now the science claims that it has no affect on blood sugar. They also claim that you wont see much of an affect on your gastrointestinal system until you hit about .5 grams per kg of body weight. At about 100 kg, I tested this and then some. I actually didnt see any issues until i ingested 100g in a sitting( just mixed with water). I really dont recommend that because I got some bloating and gas. But that aside, no noticable impact on blood sugar 1 hour later. Though I did not test ketones, they have a positive correlation so one can assume the same. Now back to this recipe, the allulose we use is 10g/TBSP or 160g/Cup. So that's 240g in the whole pie. Or 30g/serving. Now while this is higher than I would eat on a regular basis, it is well under my personal tests for allulose and under the recommended gastrointestinal limit of 0.5g per kg of body weight in a sitting (unless you're under 60 kg). As a note, really pecan pie is about 65g of sugar per slice lol.
