If possible, always opt for organic roots. These tubers uptake heavy metals, so knowing their point of origin is preferable. Chinese root produce is often high in metals because the farms are downstream from mines.

As I saw this video, I just went ahead and made some ginger lemon tea with ginger, turmeric tea. Mix them together and then pour them into the ice cube molds. I rarely have opportunity to get organic fruits~ and awhile ago the Lord Jesus Christ gave me the faith to pray and believe that He will multiply the desired nutrition from the small amounts I had to contribute to the recipe. ( Like the feeding of the 5,000). I first prayed about that when I was in a situation where I could not afford very much food and really needed fruits and vegetables ~I ended up getting organic pouches of fruits and vegetables at Walmart for a dollar ~and it did sustain me.

@@MarysNestyes please, I would love to learn how to make more elderberry products. I just made the syrup because my grandson came home sick from school. He was better in a couple day! But now I have 3 cups of syrup in my fridge and don’t want it to spoil. Last year when I made it it developed some white mold on top even though it was capped and refrigerated. I guess it doesn’t have a very long shelf life. I wonder can it be frozen to be used later if the family needs it? I hate to waste it. Also, can a tincture be made with elderberries? What is that process and what would the dosage be? Can fresh or dried berries be used?

A friend of mine, who has studied these things, told me that ginger isn't very useful if you're only boiling it (which is what I used to do).To get its benefits , you have to actually eat the ginger. So now when I make ginger tea, I grate it finely and put it in tea of my choosing. (Also I cook with it.) ❤☺️ Edit: I guess rather than grating the fresh root, using dried ginger would work.😁

Very interesting Recipe! The MicroPlane is supposed to be used on the other side. Flip it over and grate it on the Citrus like it is a Bow on a Violin. This enables you to see where the Grating is occurring so the Pith is avoided and the edging captures the Zest which you drop into the Pot just by flipping it over. Give it a try, you will be Amazed! ❤

I have the ginger and the turmeric ice cubes separately, and I squeeze a fresh lemon every day to put in tea. This way, you can use either ginger or turmeric in cooking rice, stew, or soups. Ginger will flavor pineapple in a recipe like a candy.

Hello Mary, just so people are aware for those people unable to get fresh ginger or turmeric that if using the powdered spices your printed recipe says 1 1/2 tbsp of each rather than just 3/4 tbsp of turmeric you mention in your video. Thanks Mary! Great video. Very clear and understandable. I would like to point out that if anyone is diabetic and using Mounjaro injection medication, check with your doctor before using any turmeric! My best friend is diabetic and using Mounjaro, so I looked for any contraindications and found the warning for turmeric with Mounjaro. Evidently they both lower blood sugar and when taken together can cause a low blood sugar incident. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I like to always check before I give her any herbal tea or medicine. So I'm going to make this for myself (arthritis) and try making it with stinging nettle for her. I wish I had found you earlier, but I'm really glad I did find you! Thanks again! 👍

Hi Mary. Love ALL your videos, and YOU! Here’s an idea for your parchment paper. If you have some tulle (mesh fabric), cut a square of that, maybe 8”-10”, crumple your parchment into a loose ball, wrap it inside the tulle, gather at the top, tie with a pretty ribbon or twine, and hang it in your pantry for an air freshener. I actually did this with an orange that my son and I studded with whole cloves when he was 2. It’s hung on our Christmas tree for 29 years now, and you can still faintly smell the cloves! 🥰

I learned to peel ginger using the side of a teaspoon which makes it much easier. I freeze extra fresh ginger and I peel it frozen which keeps me from running out, especial when I feel sick. I did a taste test when making ginger tea and there is a noticeable difference. I like it peeled much more, even though it's a little extra work. Thank you Mary for this lesson and I too buy organic when possible.

tip on storing the frozen cubes. Store them in their frozen state in a paper bag or a glass container. It's important not to let them thaw even slightly, because once it melts, and. your store them in the bag or container, they will stick to one another in the freezer. It takes seconds to thaw so you got to be real quick from taking them off the ice tray to put into the paper bag or glass container.

Mary, I juice limes often using the juicing tool you did in this video, and I will tell you I get lots more juice putting the cut side up and skin side toward the holes. The reason this works better is the seeds will not allow a total juicing with the cut side down, but the cut side up the seeds slide off to the side and the juicing is all the way down to the peel. Just be aware that you need to hold the device that the juice will come out the side of the device and not out the bottom with holes. I have not tried it with oranges or lemons, but it's a WINNER with limes.

Yes, the vet told us that sanded liners caused greater risk for all birds for "bumble foot" as well as intestinal blockages if eaten and told us to use either parchment paper or non-waxed, non-acid, non-bleached, non-toxic "butcher or Kraft" (brown) paper instead. Told us to buy a box of "grit" instead because the sanded paper liners were not a substitute for their digestive aid grit contrary to popular belief/myth and what we were told at the store.

The most useful thing i ever learned from Rachel Ray is to freeze your ginger roots. Stays fresh forever and makes it so easy to grate. I bet turmeric could freeze up as well.

From my experience in using limes, the rinds are unpalatable, I recommend skip using the lime rinds (using all parts of the lemon works well). In regards to all of the fresh ingredients, save your time and blend all of them in the blender, then heat the whole mixture. Also, I drink this mixture as a hot sweetened tea for the flu, sinus infections, and and type of inflammation.

You can also make an immunity shot with 1 cup turmeric, 1 cup ginger 1teaspoon cayenne pepper and 1 teaspoon black peppercorns ground up add 1 quart water bring to boil turn down simmer 20 to 30 minutes let cool strain and put into shot bottles with tops or put in a Mason jar and store in the refrigerator, take a shot in the morning on an empty stomach. Works great for your immunity. I usually let mine sit in the refrigerator over night before i strain but you don't have to i just like getting everything i can out of my spices. You can chop or shred your turmeric and ginger it doesn't matter i prefer shredded.

I just made by second batch of this wonderful recipe. I use all organic ingredients. In my second batch I added three long sticks of cinnamon. I've got them in the ice cube trays as we speak so I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure I will love it. I also left the cinnamon sticks in the slurry in the second part of the recipe. I put it through my blender (adding water) and poured it on trays. Instead of putting it in the oven I processed it in my freeze dryer. Then I powder it and store it in a Mason jar. Oh and I added pepper to the slurry too just like in the first recipe. Thank so much for demonstrating and sharing this wonderful Anti-Inflamatory recipe.

Welcome! So glad you're here. Yes, I did get the virus along with its version of pneumonia. I went to the urgent care clinic in my area but they said they did not have any medicine for me. So, I went home and took a teaspoon of elderberry syrup three times a day for about 2 weeks. I also drank lots of hot ginger tea. Plus, I never lied down. I always slept sitting up and was breathing deeply when I was awake. Thank goodness I recovered and was ok (I am in my mid 60s, so it was a bit scary.) Love, Mary

Thank you so much for this video. I never really knew how to use the Roots or how to cook them. I seriously want to try this. I buy 1 lb bag of Organic Powder Turmeric and 1 lb bag Powder Organic Ginger and keep them in it's own bag , it came with .Then when one is open, I put the bag and all in a zip lock bag to store in my Upright Freezer. When one is opened, I put some of it in it's own Glass Spice Jar and Label . That is how I buy and keep all of my spices.. In the mornings I take 1 tsp of Turmeric and 1 tsp of Ginger and mix them in a glass of water. Stir them well and drink it down each morning. I have heard and read that Turmeric is very strong to Keep Cancer Away. I know there are other things I need to do also. I am a Vegan, so that's a plus for my health, but being a vegan is not assurance for being Healthy. I still have to stay away from Processed foods and Sugar. So I use Stevia or Honey instead of sugar. Again thanks so much for your Video, I know it was from God because I am 73 years old and trying very hard, through God's well, to stay healthy. May God Bless you and Your Ministry of Healthy Recipes. I will pray for you and your Ministry 🙏

Cut the parchment paper in small pieces and place in jar with vented top. Smells great. Check at times as if live in humid area, may need to put paper Back in dehydrator to dry so doesn’t get moldy. Retains smell for quite awhile. I use a dark colored jar or reuse container with vented top

Hi Mary, I’m so glad to see your video! I do have a question and a suggestion: Do you scrub your ginger and turmeric prior to slicing? ( especially if non organic) Can you tell us what the pith and zest are in your lemons? Suggestion: for all the junk journal creators out there, we would use one of those parchment papers ( that smell so good) in our journals; cutting down to page size. What a great addition to our journals. ( we could enclose your site address in youtube in the journal as well) A cooking/recipe journal comes to mind. Oh the creations we can make! Thank you again!
