I really appreciate your channel for how you show how to use a variety of materials - eva, styrene, pvc, 3D print and the painting processes you use. Thanks for sharing templates and your process - I think I've found a new hobby.

i've 3d printed the gun about 3 month ago and the parts are still all over the place. made a functioning trigger and some internal lightling but i still haven't glued it together. i really dont want to sand it :D but now you made one, so i guess i have to finish mine as well.

I started watching this channel to learn to paint a resin cast of Malcolm Reynold's Pistol that I bought at Dragon Con this year. I started foam smithing from the books so I'm super excited for this template bringing it full circle. Thank you!

Hey man! Just wanted to give you a quick thanks... I've been making for a few years, but after losing my day job earlier this year I decided to make prop building/random crap making my day job. Started out small with a limited budget and hardly any tools (just moved countries and didn't have much stuff) but now as we get close to the end of the year I am making a very good living, have $10k plus in tools and making 5-10 sales a day! Just wanted to thank you because you've always been one of those guys giving me inspiration and pushing me, so thanks! Hopefully we can hang out or work together in the future! Have an awesome holidays! - Jesse.

We need more more more FIREFLY!!!! A friend gave me the series download. I then bought the DVD for the movie. I can see a monster watching day in my future. I was delighted to get all the wonderful adventures of Mal & his crew. We don’t watch TV, only using it for movies. I also read the Lord off the Rings just a few years after publication. While I like the movies, the books are incredible. Then came Robert Jordan. He was another awesome writer. I need someone to read who is just as talented! I keep trying, but that individual hasn’t hit my radar, yet.

I'm excited to try and follow along with this one. I want to make a McCree costume for next year, and I think this would be a good practice for designing/building his revolver!

You might be able to cut back on the overwhelming uniform yellow of the metal by blending / mixing in some silver in your final highlights -- you don't want pure silver but just perhaps a bit less saturation and brightness. This is a trick used in smaller scale stuff ( 28mm miniatures ) to highlight yellow/gold metals. Probably needs some finesse to make it work at this scale.

Congrats on the 100k! On a random note I thought for a second that you were in front of a blue screen of your work space. I think it's that little bit of back light hitting you from behind/above that kind of makes the lighting feel 'off' like you had been chromakeyed. Kind of made me briefly question the nature of my reality. Is everyone just on a blue screen? Am I even real?

I won't argue the weathering that was applied to the gun in the video, as the gun props used in "Firefly" and "Serenity" were indeed weathered. But ... I'm not big on guns, but people I know who *are* into guns tend to keep them immaculately clean. So why did Captain Mal - who arguably had a fair amount of free time while journeying from planet to planet - not keep his Moses Brothers Self Defense Engine Frontier Model B all "shiny"? (The prop gun in the video looks freakin' awesome).
@punishedprops5 жыл бұрын
It's probably just a more effective way to show a tool in media. Bright shiny new things tend to read as out of place in a dusty context like Firefly, and shows/movies have to cater to the vast majority and what looks believable to them. It's an interesting thing to think about, for sure!

My workshop has scroll saw (100% because of your foam series on this channel) but not a band saw -- do you suppose a scroll saw could reliably handle cutting through PVC plastic, or is this one of those 'that depends on too many factors to answer in a KZbin comment' questions? :P

Just finished actually watching. Great prop, but you did get some of the less obvious details wrong. Like for instance on the end of grip of the gun, where it meets the main body there is a gap where normally the gun its hammer would have been (since the prop in the show was a modified revolver). Thought you might just want to know since I have seen you put amazing detail in to some props. Overall still a great video :D

Awesome Job, for what it is made of. Why not use a Taurus Model 85 revolver for the base. Then you can build it exactly to Specs. Also there is Two versions, one used for Firefly, and one for Serenity.

@Xzo7 жыл бұрын
Laochri I've explored that before. so have many others. you should go take a look at fireflyprops.net and therpf.com . I'm sure you've been through all of this before. you'll need someone to weld on a new handle and extend the hammer. someone would need to make dang well sure that the barrel is welded on straight, if not, your pistol will explode, that wouldn't be fun. you would probably want to put one of the side panels directly on the revolver so you can remove the bullet shells without having to take your pistol apart. hope this helped! :) (I've put way to much thought into this)
@Laochri7 жыл бұрын
Zachnikatel Gaming I'm not aiming to shoot it. I will have electronics that will have sounds that play when I pull the trigger. Also have empty, clip out, clip in, and recharge. Most important, the gun will need to be decommissioned.
@Xzo7 жыл бұрын
Laochri oh. that would be a lot easier! they make air soft versions. (I'm not sure if you're looking to own metal or plastic though) removing the firing pin wouldn't be that hard. you should go for it!
