I'm watching this again about six months after I saw it for the first time. Since then, I've gotten a 3D printer and printed out a kit for this Blaster. I'm almost done priming and sanding, and I have to say the quality of your work makes me want to start over (in a good way)! I think I'll finish this one and immediately work on another so I can attempt to do the painting and finishing based on your video. The barrel and weathering look awesome. Thanks for the inspiration!

Punished Props That's excellent. As always, before I've learned to use the fun new gizmos I buy at Harbor Freight, I have three or four more that I add to the wish list. I saw a beginner airbrush that looked tempting.... maybe I can justify it by saying it's cheaper than all those cans of spray paint.

Thanks Bill, that was a great read. I'm always doing props and (generally guns lightsabers etc) even some non-sifi stuff (in polished gold color I hate doing most). Getting a realistic looking metal finish is important to me so I love watching videos like this. More so when it's things I have the tools to actually do.

Woah this is awesome! The metalic finish is just spot-on. I really enjoyed the tutorial yoy made for it. You really are inspiring. If you don't mind answering: If you had to choose between a belt sander and a circular saw, which one would you pick? I'm leaning towards the sander, since like 80% of the time I spend sanding, but still, I wanted an expert opinion on the matter. Keep up the good work!!

Beautiful work, Bill. The detail and finish are outstanding. Question: you show a bondo technique for making deep impressions. How did you do that? When I stick something (ice cream stick, back of tweezers etc.) in to the bondo, the bondo just sticks to that item, and I can't get any clean slots like you made.

I have a quick question. Is a resin model much lighter then a 3D printed one? I had this question since i'm planning to get a 3d printer and i have a few props planned like a rifle and a knife. If i'm gonna hold the rifle for a whole con and the printed one is really heavy i might have to invest into resin molding.

For all of us that dont have those specific tools, nor the budget to buy everything in creating a prop. weird, I don't fully see why you would cast the print, you have to clean up all the layer lines anyways. for a one off you can't sell due to copyright, it could have just been sanded down and painted unless you're planning on multiple runs off this. for my own I'm just going to use 1mm sheet styrene and carve the pommel sides from wood.

making a mold allows him to cast more than one replica. this way, he was able to "quickly" cast out like six or so copies of the prop and he actually gave them away at a convention :) If your only goal is to have one replica to display on your shelf, you absolutely don't need to make a mold. have a great day :D btw I know your comment is like four months old, but since i knew the answer anyways, I decided to respond.
