Great tutorial and tips. I have been wondering how to use that function in Logic Pro X. I know a fair amount of music theory but rarely use it in the song creation process. Meaning I don’t consciously make an effort to make things work out according to the rules. My process begin with using my ears first but it can never hurt to learn how to make it make sense on paper when the ears are not helping me work through writers block.
@WilliamPoston5 жыл бұрын
After thinking a little more about my original comment it dawned on me that I have never really learned how to compose and/or create using theory. So that is more than likely where my bias comes from.
@itstonyholiday5 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons that I love music is that there really are no rules (or very few). I typically make most of my songs like you, using my ear. But that being said every now and then I do have to consult my theory knowledge to get that chord that sounds right or add extra voicings. My advice would be to compose as you usually do... when you get stuck with something, explore the key you’re in. See where that takes you, it’s almost like a reference you can refer back to when you need it. Thanks for watching homie! 🙌

If the piano is audio it’s going to be recorded at that tempo, you’ll have to stretch it to make it fit the grid. If it’s midi, it will play at the tempo that you change your project to 👍

Any idea why trap doubles the tempo marking and makes everything longer, such that a full measure of 4/4 now become a single beat in a trap bar? I'm assuming it is because beat based music was born from producers who maybe didn't read standard sheet music, but wondered if there was another reason. When I attempt a trap beat, I always have the tempo marking to something like 70, so my context of a 4/4 bar, 8ths and 16ths, etc... remains intact
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Scott Morwitz good question for sure, I don’t know the actual answer. I’ve heard the theory that when dance music (128bpm) was at its peak, people were experimenting with synths and electronic sounds and then speeding it up to 140-160bpm and putting on jazz drum loops which could explain it. Trap characteristically has a lot of fast arpeggios and quick hi hat/snare rolls as well which you couldn’t achieve with 70bpm (vs 140) unless you were using a 1/32 grid which is pretty fast.
@scottmorwitz27534 жыл бұрын
Tony Holiday cool, thanks. Though the 1/32 grid is only as fast as the tempo, I guess doubling the BPM gives you 1/64 options too.
