Thanks for that tip on the smaller rutabagas. My grandmother would have rutabagas shooting all across the kitchen whenever she would chop them up🤣. I love rutabagas with rice and fried pork chops.

I had my rutabaga cut up and realized I forgot how long to cook it for so I came here. I want to say thank you but not really for cooking a rutabaga. I love rutabagas Ms. Brenda Dee! My great grandmother and my grandmother cooked them with salt pork and that’s how I cook mine. I do add a little sugar to mine. I was brought up eating them with cornbread too.... Deelicious.

I haven't had turnips since I was a girl. My mom used to make it as a side dish for Thanksgiving years ago and I always enjoyed them. I remember my Georgia grandmother calling salt pork, "strik-a-lean" 😊 Thank you for the memory. I'll be looking for some next trip to the supermarket!

We never had rutabagas growing up, but we had turnips and tender turnip greens. Now I live near Charleston, SC and rutabagas are popular here. They smell really bad cooking and so I never would eat them, but thanks for showing us how and maybe someday I'll brave making and eating them!

This recipe is the closest to what I remember 50 years ago. The cooks memory from that time are waiting on cooking rutabaga so I had to search until I found one that was close to the taste of my six year old memory.

I love all veggies,except Lima beans, rutabagas are my number one. I'm the only one I my family that likes them, I don't know what is wrong with the rest of those people. I have never tried them prepared this way . I have only eaten them as described by L.D. Sometimes I sneak in a little dark brown sugar. Yummy
