I'm so glad to see you used a double boiler method to melt the wax Tessie! Safety first! To anyone who has been inspired to make candles; Please research how to do so safely first. Tessie makes it look simple, but in fact it's a very complex process to make a safe candle with a successful wicking system for each individual fragrance and jar size. (For example, Tessie used the same wick for each size candle - and I can guarantee that each candle will have a different burn and different scent throw). . Wax heated improperly on the stove can catch fire (the whole pot!). Pouring fragrance into wax that is too hot can cause the pouring fragrance to catch on fire mid-stream! There are temperature limits for heating, adding fragrance, and even when to pour into molds that make a difference in your safety and the success of your candle. Please never use cinnamon (highly flammable!!), flowers, petals, herbs, etc to decorate a candle you're going to burn - they can and do catch fire! (Tessie - maybe try a sprinkle of brown mica from a soap or candle supplier - although micas can clog the wick so don't mix into the wax) *** Two things everyone should know before making candles - especially if you gift them. 1) it could nullify your homeowners insurance. 2) you should never put out a candle fire with water. It doesn't mix with wax and will spread the fire. If you're inspired by Tessie's creations, I suggest starting with tart/wax melt making first and finding a supplier that sells "tart wax", and fragrances made for candles. Still need to be aware of fire during the making process, but less hazardous after the fact. (Tessie's wax is probably GW 415, 444, or 464 and those are too soft unless you mix in a harder wax.). Properly wicking a candle and it's vessel can take much trial and error. Each fragrance can change the size of wick needed too. You're aiming for a full melt pool no earlier than 1 - 2 hours unless you use coconut wax. Sorry if people think I'm being a downer, but these are some of the risks candle making, and I personally know chandlers who've been injured or had rooms burn because of it. I don't want that to happen to anyone else.

I totally understand your caution but I will have to say I've been using cinnamon for 30 years and candle making I've never had an issue no matter what we do in life you can have issues with it and I'm sure that people will have common sense when making things

This looked fun Tessie. I will be trying this week along with cinnamon, applesauce reindeer ornaments. Sixty one years old and never made these. I think it is about time! Thank you for sharing your life. I came from poor circumstances and I absolutely understand your daily struggles. Coming from so little taught me to be resourceful, and to enjoy things that most take for granted. I feel an immense satisfaction from growing my own garden and putting it up for later. We had a pig butchered and I rendered down the lard and then learned to make soap from the gallons of lard it produced. I shared my soaps with friends and now I'm taking orders for whole batches - this has come about because I have been watching your videos here on KZbin and you inspired me to return to my roots and make use of what I have. Your candles are so absolutely beautiful that you could sell them. There are many gift shops and smaller outlets that are always looking for unique items to sell. You may only make back the cost of materials, but if that is a craft you enjoy then break even is a wonderful goal. Thank you for sharing and may God continue to shine his light on you.

When I was growing up, there was a candle shop that created beautiful candles for weddings and gifts using pillars of all sizes. They would whip the liquid wax and frost the candles and add glitter and fake flowers (plastic) they were dipped in the liquid wax and then added to the pillars. I loved going into that shop, the smell was heavenly. Another memory revived! These are quite lovely, thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed. My mother made candles by the hundreds , For weddings, Every occasion. She had hundreds of molds. We used to set up at art fairs and sell them, Making hundreds of dollars a day! It was so much fun but alot of work too. Great job Tessie.

This reminds me of when I first learn how to make candles as the age of twelve during Christmas time at my church. We did taper candles and then used quart milk cartons that were cleaned out and made pillar candles and then on some we would take a whisk and make some of the wax fluffy and would take a knife and frost the candle. Before it would harden we would sprinkle either gold or silver glitter ✨ on them. Thank you Tessie. 🙏❤️

I used to use beautiful bottles like the old glass Aunt Jemina (sp?) and crack the glass gently with a hammer and peal the glass off; I used just wax blocks and sometimes crayons

You can curl those wire wicks around pencils or sticks to hold them in place while pouring and until the wax sets up.
