When I lived in NC (about 16 years ago), I would go to abandoned old homes. I would find all kinds of half buried treasures (buried for many, many years). People, back in the day, used to make wine and moonshine (they still do). Many times, they just threw their empty glass gallon jugs in their trash piles (usually into the woods some). Sadly, I found a lot of broken jugs in these piles, but I also found about 8 perfectly good jugs (after they were cleaned up). Also, I found some good Quart and larger old time canning jars. I even found some on property I bought. Probably not able to do that anymore. It was fun though.

Speaking of raisins- My Grandmother died at 101 of old age. She was perfectly healthy & able to do everything for herself (praise the Lord) but her hands were knotted up with rheumatoid arthritis reducing the mobility of her thumbs. In spite of that, she said she rarely took medication for pain because she hardly ever needed it. She used her mother's old family recipe & here it is: 1 package of GOLDEN raisins in a mason jar & cover with GIN (generally not the cheap stuff but Gordon's is ok). Keep it in a dark cabinet & shake it daily for 2 weeks. Eat 15 raisins daily for 1 week, then cut back to 9 raisins daily from then on. She would usually have a few in the morning & a few in the evening. Typically on vanilla ice cream & NO, she did NOT drink the gin, wine was her preference. I saw a Dr.Oz episode where he was discussing old-time remedies & mentioned this exact one! He said that a chemical reaction occurs with the raisins & the gin making this a VERY STRONG ANTINFLAMMATORY!!! This remedy does not work with dark raisins or any other alcohol. I hope this helps someone out there suffering with arthritis=)

Rain Country I most definitely will stir it! I’ve already got it started in the kitchen. I still check all my ferments every day I’m just trying to stay off my knee for the most part.(I hyperextended it) while getting out of the way of a big long huge branch that I was putting in the wood chipper! Normally I’m moving around and all over the place inside and outside and with the looks of it so are you! I never knew that you had an Etsy store and all these other miscellaneous awesome things! Normally I just press play for the videos and end up listening to them as I do my chores. Today is the first time I’ve actually looked into depth of your content! Great job with everything you do!😊 OK, and to your next video! Ha!

Hi Heidi, I have not seen all of your videos (yet), so if you already knew this, sorry to waste your time. There is this tale that a legionairy gave Yeshua some vinegar to drink, when he was thirsty. Many see this as a mean thing to do. Though I found (I think over Metatron's channel) that the people in those days in Rome used to drink vinegar. They added water to a little vinegar, you can just make it to your own taste. I tried it with apple vinegar, it tastes great! This year I am going to try it with raisin vinegar as well. It is really a nice and healthy drink, for sure when it is hot outside. Much love!

A great place to get wine bottles free is at wineries who serve the public, or at restaurants that sell wine with the meals. They usually will give them to you free, and you just have to soak off the labels and clean them. Another great place to get plastic buckets that come in handy for everything, is at pie shops! Loads of buckets complete with nice lids! You just need to soak them and scrub them up, but certainly worth the effort! Just check the dumpsters if you don't want to bother them. I found truckloads. Lol.

Hiya Heidi :-D I ordered the brake bleeder through your link, and have had it for about 2 months or so. Works MARVELOUSLY!!!!!!! I have a question for you, tho ... on the underside of the brass cylinder, just underneath the gauge, there is a small pin that neither screws in or out. It just kinda presses in. I have read the instructions, but, there's nothing in there that tells me what it's for. I watched your video several times, and I don't see that little thingy on yours. Did you take it off? Love & prayers

This is the first time making vinegar. Maybe I missed it but do I leave the raisins in there for the whole 30 days or take them out in 2 weeks?
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
That is a matter of choice really but I always leave it until it is completely done. However, since this is a very old video I need to add: make sure you stir daily to prevent mold. When it gets very active, the raisins can still float tot he top above the liquid and if left too long like that, they can mold

I followed your video and made some outstanding raisin vinegar. So delicious on salads. I have been storing it in a Grolsh beer bottle at room temperature. I haven't needed it lately and just opened it to add to a chicken mandala dish. It was fizzy and spewed all over the kitchen!!! It is obviously fermenting. I tasted it and by golly I think it tasted even better. So what the heck do you think happened?

I tried making the raisin vinegar, I started it a few weeks ago. I checked on it and noticed a lot of mold on top. I scooped it off, is it still good or should I just throw it out? I used organic raisins and water from our distiller.

Though I rarely had issues with mold on my raisin vinegars, I would often get them on my other ones, I just leave it at that point and let it finish, then remove the top layer before straining. However I have since start a new way that involves stirring daily for at least the first two weeks. I get a better vinegar with no mold. Here is my most recent video on vinegar making where I also discuss testing the acidity: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaPUomlvnaeCh5o

Heidi, what are the safest, most non-toxic, non-outgassing barrels you recommend for saving rain water, and what filter system do you use? I forget like I'm an Olympic Gold Medalist in the Senility Event, in case you've covered all this before. Thank you!♡

On the first question, I am not sure, I know the ones we have are food grade barrels we bought second hand. They had peach schnapps in them at one time! haha! Patrick made our own filtering set up but we use the Berkey filters in it

Mostly it is just the natural waxy layer from the raisins that has floated to the top, some of it is the mother as is seen on the bottom as well.

your sealing device has me baffled! how does it work? how does it get the out with the the seal on? normally these seals have a hole in them? also instead of using water what about kombucha? i have made kombucha and let it sit for over a year and it is drinkable but very bitter and almost like a vinegar.
@RainCountryHomestead

Kombucha when allowed to work through all the sugars is then vinegar. Here is a video on the brake bleeder pump and how I use it, assuming I must of shown that in the old video you commented on above: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHzQg3ikp8-Fi6c

Technically you do not pump the bleeder up to 15. You pull the air out until it is down to a 15 vacuum.

I try to use all organic whenever I can, however, if I must settle for conventional, then I go for the things on the Clean 15 list and do not use the skins. Examples: oranges, lemons, bananas, and so on

Thanks Heidi, I was so excited to try this, but mine ended up with a disc of tri colored mold on top, green white and pink mold. I make Kombucha and have not had similar issues, I understand cleaning the equipment and I use a berkey to filter water both black and white filters. . . not sure what caused the mold. Any ideas? I want to try it again, but not until I know what the issue may have been!

Molds will happen, it is nothing to be alarmed about. Though for some reason I very rarely ever get mold on my raisin vinegar, I almost always get it on my apple and peach vinegars. I suggest you go find my peach vinegar video where I show a couple different types of molds and what I do to deal with it :)
