I have been making a gallon a day for 49 years now in Hawaii from frsh coconuts here. I blend the medium aged coconut with water and probiotics adn pur into quart jars and let sit for a day in room temp and then put in friege it lasts for months if need be (skim off the top). You cannot mess this one up it is too easy.

any tips on what probiotic to use? ive got yogurt starter with 10 different bacteria but i don't know what works better with coconut vs. milk as far as probiotics.. i also have a yogurt maker that heats it a little, not sure if its too hot for this or fine to do just like milk yogurt. thanks 😊

WOW! Thank you very much Alison for sharing this COOL recipe for making Raw Coconut Yogurt with real natural coconut, saw 2 other videos but they recommend using canned coconut milk, preferably from a Thai brand, as for the temp, this other pretty chick, Dana, recommends we have the yogurt at a room temp of 75°F and higher, but she didn't specify how high and with what you tell us here, a great room temp is 90°F, depending on how hot it is right now the temp varies betwee 88 and 90°F, once the rainy season starts in June, it will cool down a bit, probably going down to 75° and 82°F, so either way I can now make my own homemade Raw Coconut Yogurt, thanks to you! Uprated and sending ya greetings from Mexico. :) Oops, forgot to thank ya for the link to buy probiotic powder at Amazon, will be using that soon. :D

Great.. A couple of thoughts.. If you pierced the lid would that not help the probiotics metabolise and also stop the spillage.. or just put it on loosely.. Also if you are making this on a regular basis it should be possible to use your yoghurt as a culture instead of fresh probiotic powder each time which is very expensive.. I've not tried yet but will have a go.. thanks for the vid.. ;9)

Hello Allison! About 2 weeks ago I saw a different video than this that teaches you how to make the coconut milk from shredded coconut. I was incredibly inspired. First two times I didn't didn't come out so good then I brought the mesh nut bag I was kind of amazed at how much milk came out. I haven't tackled how to make flower out of the meat of it but I'll tell you that my three cats well two of the three love the taste of warm coconut milk. Where would be an appropriate place for me to send you questions that I have. Thank you for sharing all of this

Thanks for the response & the tips. I wasn't even considering that my frozen shredded coconut wasn't of the young variety. The only thing I could find locally was sweetened frozen shredded from Walmart, made by Birdseye. That would definitely make sense as to why it would never be smooth, being from a mature, firm coconut. I guess I should try to look harder for an Asian market. ;) I hope to try again.

I love your video & I tried making this for the first time last night, but unfortunately it was pretty much a fail. I killed the probiotic by accidentally over blending the frozen shredded coconut in my Blendtec, which brings me to my question. How do you keep the yogurt from coming out so grainy? I blended it for 3 or 4 rounds trying to make it smooth. Any suggestions? Or does it never get completely smooth?

Hello, mine never thickened up. I knew it looked much more watery than yours when I blended it. I used the frozen young coconut and one bag equalled 2 cups. I put a little bit more water in it ( I guess I shouldn't have). It stayed in the oven with the light for 20 hours and it did not thicken at all. Now I have it in the fridge. Is there anything I can do with this? Add more coconut and try again, or do I need to throw this out now? Thanks for the help!

I've got to say that it's thick like Greek Yogurt but has a very different flavor. Try adding a few drops of liquid stevia and see how you like it. Also, Greek Yogurt is only sour if it's low in fat. Try buying the full fat versions (Trader Joe's sells a full fat Greek Yogurt that my super picky husband LOVES) and see how you like it (and don't be afraid of the fat, it will help you to stay fuller longer, and helps you to properly digest the lactose and protein in the yogurt).

Becka- I'm wondering if the frozen shredded coconut you used was maybe from a mature coconut instead of a young/green coconut? Otherwise it should have gotten smooth. My only other thought is that some people have complained that Blendtec's don't make smooth nut butters, so maybe that was the issue. I'm sorry it didn't get smooth for you.

Wow you have some great recipes! Thanks so much for sharing. I don't have my kefir anymore I had the water kind and the milk kind, it was to much work and I also have a Kombucha which I still have that. So dealing with all that was to much. But you said I can just use the coconut water. Also I think kefir makes your stomach fat or bloat or something, it did mine and it happened to my two sister to. so I stopped drinking and eating that and it took a long time for my stomach to go back down, months! And the same thing with my sister I think it took them a lot long for theirs to go down. Dose kefir do that to you? Thanks again
@healthnutnation
@healthnutnation 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Amanda- Anything to do with dairy makes my stomach bloat (kefir included). The water and coconut water kefir I make doesn't. If it does for you then you might check out a low FODMAP diet. It's unusual to have probiotics make a person bloat, and when it does it usually indicates a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) or some sort of intestinal infection. Especially if it takes months for the effects to wear off. Search both and see if you have any of the other symptoms associated with either SIBO or intolerance to FODMAP's.

Unless I'm missing something, this appears to me to be a very expensive way to make coconut yogurt. One of my reasons for making coconut yogurt is to reduce the cost from store-bought coconut yogurt. I think I will stick to cheap and easy, using a starter from a jar of coconut yogurt, added to a can of Thai coconut milk or cream. We do what we have to do.

The coconut yogurt if I make it in the morning. How long do you keep it in the oven. How many hours. Also do you have to use mason jars with plastic covers? I only have ones with the metal tops? Thanks You said, you have a book where can it be purchased?
@healthnutnation
@healthnutnation 9 жыл бұрын
Tammy Richards I usually keep it in the oven for about 4-5 hours, but it really depends on the potency of the probiotics you are using, as well as the temperature in your oven and house. When it starts to have a lot of air bubbles, taste it, and see if it's got a yogurt taste. Sometimes it won't taste good until you refrigerate it, but you can tell if it's kind of cultured tasting when it's warm. You can get my ebook here: www.healthnutnation.com/paleo-sweet-tooth-ebook/

No, it doesn't spoil. The probiotics will not cultivate if you put it directly in the fridge. They need to warm up to activate and proliferate. Remember coconuts thrive in extremely warm/hot climates. They don't spoil easily.

can i let ferment more than 1 night i do not want sugar in it because i have a candida ... ?
@healthnutnation
@healthnutnation 10 жыл бұрын
It can start to taste rotten if you let it ferment very long. This has no added sugar and should not be a problem with candida. I've had candida (just got a clean test back!) and have included coconut yogurt and fermented coconut water as a way to heal from candida.
