In this tutorial I'll show you how to make a simplified Rey's staff from Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. It's a little time consuming, but fairly cheap and easy to construct from PVC pipe and craft foam. Had requests for this from Doreen and Yesmarvel76. The piece of pipe I used for this was left over from the Aquaman trident ( • DIY Aquaman Trident - ... ), so my Rey staff ended up being a little shorter than it should have been, but you can adjust yours to fit your size. A lot of the D-rings and fasteners were just spare ones I had lying around, so not sure where all of them came from at this point. Just use whatever you can find that's close.
MATERIALS USED:
1 PVC pipe (mine was 1 1/4 inch diameter)
Scrap strips of off-white and brown fabric (the more ragged the edges, the better)
Hot glue gun
Scissors
2 sheets of 3mm craft foam (amzn.to/2DH7K2y)
1 sheet of 5mm craft foam
White school glue (amzn.to/2DGICJe)
Foam brush (amzn.to/2nlY9rb) and cup to hold glue
Black paint (I used lacquer: amzn.to/2sc7HKL)
Metallic Gunmetal Gray paint (amzn.to/2EFMCuN)
2 D-rings (or something similar)
A 3-bar fastener (so the strap can be adjusted)
1 5-foot piece of beige strapping
2 clasps to hook onto D-rings (amzn.to/2EHxNI8)
*Optional: Distress ink or brown food coloring to age to staff wrappings (goo.gl/H87sr5)

this is great!! what would be even more helpful was if you listed the sizes of the foam shapes and the rough places on the pipe where you put everything... i have extremely poor spatial gauging so it was extremely difficult trying to figure out how big/small i should make the foam pieces

@Thewoodlandelf 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 Yeah, definitely fabric wrapping last is a much better idea. When I was painting it, I was sitting there asking myself why I didn't wait to wrap it, but at that point I didn't want to have to unwrap everything. So, everything the hard way I guess, lol.

I've always thought this staff was supposed to be used for something more than just being swung into a bunch of attackers. If it does nothing special by design in Episode 9 I'm going to wonder why it wasn't just a plain pipe all along.

Thats exacly what i was looking for! I have just a little problem i have only 2 milimeter craft foam will it work if i glue two layers togheter?
@Thewoodlandelf
@Thewoodlandelf 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can glue two layers together. Or if you don't want to bother, you can probably just use 2mm foam just the way it is. I don't think it'd be much different, since it's only a 1mm size difference.

@Thewoodlandelf
@Thewoodlandelf 4 жыл бұрын
It's probably around $20 if you buy everything new (I had some of the stuff like the paint and fabric already on hand when I made it, so it cost me less than that).
@crystalsholander3908

To me the PVC was the more expensive part and the foam colored markers and fabric was on clearance at joannes and micheals. Honestly it’s a lot of time and I just did a little ea day. I measured twice before I cut foam pvc or fabric. Very sturdy and everyone loves playing w it. Would say it put me at about 35.00 for all supplies
