Hi everyone, just a little note on the initial mixing of alcohol to water ratio. I have mixed too much basicly, i only use 300ml of that mixture to 100ml matt medium. The recipe is correct later but you're left with some leftover alcohol/ water that has no purpose. So it should be: 150ml distilled water + 150ml alcohol + 100ml matt medium. Little mistake but hope this helps, cheers!

Finally a video which covers ALL questions and differences between pva & medium use, the surface tension/flow improvements, the glossy/matt issue's, & applying know how. Very good video, when someone asks me for gluetips for diorama's i always refere to this one. Great Art too. !!!........BOOKMARKED !!

I’ve been binge watching your videos the past few days, outstanding work and very inspiring. I’m just starting a new army that I want to base on forest bases. Simply the best videos for this on KZbin I’ve found.

So recipe 1 is superior to 2, but cost more and takes longer to make. As long as you add water/IPA first, the first downside of 2 is mostly fixed. Depending on the material, the main issue will be the discoloring. If you paint the materials afterwards, the discoloring doesn't matter. Which makes sense because you have seemed to created these mixtures particularly for groundcover (that you don't paint). So let's say you are someone (like me) that almost always paints the stuff they put on there bases, than recipe 2 might be the way to go. EDIT: I always sealed basing materials in with a PVA/water mix, but never added a flow improver like dish soap. I just tried your mix and with good result. I put it in a dropper bottle, which works like a pipet and reservoir in one. Thanks for the tip sir!

I keep coming back to the first recipe; it's so helpful, especially when working on elaborate bases on gaming models where the usual methods of breaking surface tension tend to have side effects. Wonderful stuff, just started another batch today!

Greetings from Australia! Great video, thanks for the tips! I'm going to start a new Stormcast army and have autumn themed bases for them, many of your tutorials are giving me inspiration and knowledge on how I can accomplish them. I love your deadpan execution of your dry humour too, it makes the videos that much more enjoyable to watch. Thanks again for your time and effort on your videos, I really appreciate it.

This is a great tip. Thank you! I've tried so many different recipes. But I've always had trouble getting the best flow into the foliage. Sand is particularly difficult. I also don't like the way PVA darkens the project. I have all the ingredients can't wait to get home and mix it up. FYI your work is amazing and your videos are a treat to watch.I always come away with a new fresh idea. Thanks again.

13:40 an airbrush should work well as a alternative. I aspect it would give you more control. But I get that more people have these misters lying around, compared to how many people have an airbrush.

great tutorial ! seeing the kruidvat bottle, I'd guess you're either dutch or belgian, if you're the latter, where did you buy the isopropyl bottle ?
@Paepercuts3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, i am Dutch but with Belgian roots so a bit of both ;) I buy my alcohol from an online pharmacy usually, in liter bottles because i use it often. I don't remember which one it was though, there are many ones available if you browse a little. Good luck!

Love Your channel! Will go try out both of the recepies asap! I was wondering though if it pays-off adding alchohol to the PVA mixture from start (for better flow)...
@Paepercuts7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Well i've never tried that, it might work. I'm not sure what the alcohol will do to the PVA over time, it might separate the solids just like with matte medium. It is worth a try! good luck on making the recipes ;)

I know this is an old video, but I was wondering if you ever figured out a use for the left overs?. You said it was binder and I have a decent stock of powder pigments, so I was wondering if it could be used to mix with powder pigments to create acrylic paint?. I need to make scenery glue and if I could use what is left over to make the paint for use as the under painting under grass and water, that would be very handy.
@Paepercuts4 жыл бұрын
I never tried that but it's interesting, that would be useful to recycle if it works. If given 7 days ( longer is even better ) the binder is usually very dense so it'll need some thinner aswell i think. Let me know your results! Cheers.

Hello and txfor the great tuto. Does Mod Podge Matte needs alcohol too, or just distilled water is fine?
@Paepercuts6 жыл бұрын
Thanks glad you liked it. I would treat Mod Podge the same as PVA, so dilute with water and perhaps a tiny drop of dish detergent. If you mix it with alcohol in a bottle over time the solids will seperate from the fluid. Optionally you can pre-wet the area with 50/50 alcohol and water then your glue will run over the area much smoother. Good luck!
@fluffchucker136 жыл бұрын
I'm really enjoying your excellent videos. Your approach reminds me of the late Bob Ross `Wet on Wet' painting who I used to watch As I'm using shop bought PVA which is £1 per 500ml, would it improve the flow coverage if I added dish soap / washing liquid?
@Paepercuts6 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear thanks! Yes combined with water a little drop of dish detergent will reduce the surface tension so it will flow much better. Cheers

So, for sealing static gras scenery, recipe number 1 is the optimal? does that mean that recipe number 2 dosent work in this cases? Thanks for a very practical video!
@Paepercuts4 жыл бұрын
The P.V.A. mixture will work, although it is much heavier and will not spray very well through a fine spraybottle. The Matt Medium mixture is basicly better in every field ( pun intended ofc! ), except maybe the cost and time to make it. Cheers!

Couldn't the alcohol in the scenery glue mess with the paint? Isn't there a risk of at least some stripping? Love the tutorials, hope they keep coming.
@Paepercuts4 жыл бұрын
Hey, well in my experience i never had issues. 70% isn't that aggressive i wouldn't use 90+% though. It's also diluted with water. It's mainly on painted miniatures where, when alcohol is applied and then rubbed, that paint may come off. But with anything it's better to be safe, so ( and i also do this often ) a little testpiece is always handy is you're not certain of the outcome. Cheers!

Thank you for this video! But I didn't understand one thing. For 1 reciept you mix 240ml alco + 240 ml water. And use then only 300ml to mix with matte medium. Is there any reason? Why don't you mix 150+150 to get 300ml? Thank you.
@Paepercuts4 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's a mistake i have made in the video. It should be just equal 150ml alco/ 150ml water and then 100ml matt medium. Thanks for asking and good luck!
