Very nice video. I'm looking to do my own kitchen redo soon. One thing I would change is using MDF panels instead of maple, as they will expand and contract less with changes in humidity.

Great video. I've been thinking about making new cabinet doors for my kitchen. I have 4 doors that I want to have glass inserts done and have not been able to find anyone that will touch the existing doors to remove the wood panel and insert glass. I've never done anything like this before and have recently bought myself an entry level miter saw and table saw. I have a healthy respect for all of my fingers so I am just not sure if this is something that I can do.

What a dream workshop! I have one question about the panels. All the panels I see at the big box stores and even one lumber yard are never 0.25" thick. They are more like 0.20-.021", so the panels are loose and there's a visible gap. I don't know how to compensate for this. In the video, it looks like your panel wood is actually tight. I've looked at birch, plywoods, even MDF, etc. Why am I not getting this fit? Thanks for the helpful video.
@jasonpaulwhiting2 жыл бұрын
Question, what do you use for your inside panel on the large locker doors? A panel that size makes me worried about wood movement. Would you do an MDF panel?
@DIYTyler2 жыл бұрын
MDF would be adequate. I have done some pretty large doors, 1.5'x6' with plywood panels and they are great. I have seen kitchens that have a solid panel that you can sometimes see the unfinished edge as the seasons change. Solution there would be to paint the panel, or at least prime with your final color, before assembly since you don't actually glue the panel in place anyway.

If not what would be your choice in a mid-price range? Loyal fan Bruce

Weird that you posted this almost a month ago but it just showed up for me today, I literally was making the exact same kind of doors yesterday! I did have a little issue that I think my router is not sitting 100% square to the fence so my grooves are not exactly true. Kind of a bummer and something I need to address. I've done 2 complete doors and parts of a third but I have another 5 or 6 at least still to go for this one project. How much tweaking did you need to do to get the bit height and depth right? I added a few of the included shims into the tongue bit to get a tighter fit.

Hi Tyler, I'm new to your channel and I really enjoy the content. I have a question for you that is not related to this specific build but in regards to your miter saw. I've got a really small shop (12'x15') and I'm torn on which miter saw to upgrade to. I was pretty set on the Delta Cruzer 12" (traditional sliders are out of the question) but it's a little more than I want to spend. Then I was leaning toward the Dewalt 716XPS non-slider which is what you used to have I believe. I'm interested in your opinion on why you replaced the DeWalt with the Rigid and your thoughts on sliders vs non-sliders. Thanks in advance.

Just a question on the Sander, what grit are you running? mine came with 80 grit I think which will definitely remove material but seems to leave noticeable sanding marks.
@DIYTyler5 жыл бұрын
It depends, use 80 like you if I need to remove material but I also have 150 and 220 for cleaning up the marks that are left.
@ronwallerich94695 жыл бұрын
Great work Tyler. What model router lift do you use? What grit did you use for the final sanding on you drum sander? Do you allow extra thickness when you make your doors to allow for the final sanding?
@DIYTyler5 жыл бұрын
Rocklers router lift, not the pro version. 220 grit for final sanding on drum sander, don't allow for extrathickness....allowed extra width for the rails and stiles so I could sand down the edges to exactly 2".
