How do you remove the stone particles from simsim before roasting?
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara Жыл бұрын
Towards the end of the video, I've explained how I wash them. I use lots of water. Mostly the stones should remain at the bottom. Once you've removed the simsim, you can pour out the water. You may lose a few simsim seeds but you won't have the stones. I hope that helps.

@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline. You can dry them when cooking. Some people actually wash and cook directly. As they are frying on the pan, they eventually dry and then they can mix them with the sugar syrup. Thanks so much for watching and being here!

@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Beatrice for watching! I didn't put groundnuts in this one but I would most likely fold them in when shaping the simsim into a bowl. Adding when in the pan can be quite a task. I think you could make it into the semblance of the granola one I did on the channel😊 perhaps make the simsim seeds part of your granola once you've roasted the seeds in your pan. Hope this helps!

Don't get discouraged Nancy. They need you to work fast. Keep a very low fire going as you make the balls until you are done. The very low fire keeps the sugar somewhat melted (kiasi) until you are done. I'm hopeful that helps. Thanks so much for watching!

@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Perry, thanks for watching the video! Keep trying to press the seeds together as you follow the tutorial. The idea of compacting the seeds together is that as the sugar cools, it hardens. The seeds then harden together with the sugar. When it has cooled completely, the balls should have formed well.

Hi Angela? I went to Githurai market to buy cereals and was pleasantly surprised that the one I bought from had simsim seeds. The price was the same as when I send for them from western Kenya.. only 10bob more. If they are in Githu, I'm certain they might be in Gikomba too. Hope that helps!

Don't you add nutmeg or cinnamon in the mix for flavor

Feel free to add in case you like it with spice. ☺️We grew up preparing and eating without. We love the taste of sesame seeds as they are. Thank you so much for watching!

@recipesandhospitalitywithclara Ай бұрын
@@NankabirwaTeopeace I'm sorry about this. I wish though I was there to taste. They should be firm and crunchy. Some make them in our country to sell and they are hard. As long as they are not bitter, I think they might come out hard sometimes. Try this: When forming the balls, you could try bringing the ball together slightly loosely without compacting the piece firmly. This way, they'll hold together loosely then they can be softer. I hope this can help.

My simsim balls come out to hard, is that am using to much sugar or what,?
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Irene, thanks for watching. At what point were they hard? Usually, as sugar cools, it hardens. They then become hard as they cool. Depending on room temperature the next day, they seem to soften abit. Incase they became hard as you prepared, the sugar was cooling. You keep it on very low heat until you finish shaping. Incase it's after shaping, that's how they usually are; crunchy. Hope this helps!

Why does mine stick on the spoon when shaping them?
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara 2 жыл бұрын
That does happen I think.. especially because once the spoon cools, the sugar starts to solidify. I would suggest using another spoon to get the mixture off the spoon you're using. Then continue to shape as fast as you can before it solidifies. Also, as you keep doing this overtime, I think it gets easier and easier.
