I have made this twice and my wife and I loved it. Really easy and so good! My only suggestion for those of us novice cookers, depending on which crushed tomato sauce you get, if you find that it is acidic, add sugar until its lowers the acidity to liking. It took me a good minute to figure out but luckily my mom thought me that a long time ago!

I did not have sausage but the meatballs came out just fine with only ground beef (still very tender). I used fresh shallot from my garden to substitute for onion because I was out of onion. The sausage in the meatballs definitely adds a lot of flavor to the meatballs. We didn’t have any bread on hand yesterday, so instead we use a 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs. They still came out good!
