if that is how much sunscreen we actually need to apply on a daily basis, why on earth do they all come in 30-50ml bottles (max 100ml for face) ?! it's just not economically practical for most people to purchase a bottle of £30 sunscreen every 10 days!

TheFluffy1966 Hi! After years of experimenting, I found Paula's Choice Resist Super Light Wrinkle Defence... Seriously the best. SPF 30+, feels just like a normal moisturiser, totally matte and oil free, fragrance free, full of vitamins and antioxidants, a perfect base and primer for foundation. Totally smooths over skin and blurs our imperfections, no white cast. I wear it every single day and no longer need a makeup primer. I put my makeup on at 6am and it lasts 10-12 hours every day in the Australian climate. Also very reasonably priced. If you can get your hands on Paula's Choice then I highly recommend. Hi Dr Bunting, how about reapplying sunscreen over makeup? I understand that sunscreen must be reapplied throughout the day especially if one will be outside for long hours. I'm quite meticulous in sunscreen application and use one every single day in the quantity you have mentioned. It's the one skincare item I am always buying. As I don't rely on the spf in my makeup even when touching up my makeup, I usually just avoid going out in the sun for too long especially during the hours when the sun's rays are the strongest. But sometimes I need to be out the whole day. For such days, how can I ensure I'm getting adequate sun protection while still having my makeup on?
@DrSamBunting9 жыл бұрын

I also have I swear the OILIEST skin in the universe, Ive tried using moisturizers and primer and the makeup is so oily and separated after an hour! Would it be bad to apply mineral sunscreen all over the face(mainly to avoid eye irritation) and then apply a little of a lighter tinted chemical sunscreen to avoid the white cast? At least where I live, tinted chemical sunscreen tend to be more affordable than a tinted mineral one, and many of us don’t even use foundation on a daily bases, we just need an affordable way to avoid eye sting without a white cast. 😌Thanks for all of your videos

It's THE most important area to apply SPF!! It is common for many to have sensitivities to some chemical SPF ingredients in the eye area, in which case using a mineral based SPF would be the key, but you definitely should be applying it all over/ around the eye area (which I believe is specifically referenced/ mentioned in the video; if not its in her morning routine video, S I just watched both in succession). 5 ml is one teaspoon of sunscreen. The recommended amount is actually 1/4 teaspoon for your face, and 1/4 teaspoon for your neck. But this amount was calculated for MEN in the top 4% of facial size. So you just had this woman slather on an unnecessarily thick mask of goop for no reason.

@@drina4706 As face sunscreen is much more expensive than body sunscreen, and one has to be more careful with the ingredients when it comes to the face, I use 1/4 of a teaspoon of face sunscreen on the face and apply body sunscreen on the neck and decolletage. One does not have to apply the same expensive product on face, neck and cleavage. Also my dermatologist (clinical) laughed when I said that 5ml has been recommended. One needs to reapply as well, less frequently if indoors but still reapply. So imagine using the super expensive product this doctor is using in the video above! You'll need to buy one of those tubes every week!!! There are other dermatologists on YT that are far more aware of the cost of things and their advice is far more thorough than the one offered here.

After applying sunscreen and foundation, is it possible to apply an insect repellent on my face like Natrapel (20% Picaridin) wipes? If yes, will dabbing the wipes on my face be alright?

is she rocking forward to you or am I just crazy? it is distracting me from the information. I don't have the sheer amount of time in the morning to put on a layer and go have tea, put on a layer and get dressed, put on a layer and do something else. I put on sunscreen every single day no matter what, but I think the cosmetic industry needs to meet us in the road and meet the need.

I was under the impression that sunscreen basically needed to sit next to skin and not be diluted with serum or moisturiser. This might be OK with a zinc oxide based screen sitting on top, but not one of the chemical screens?

I have a question about zinc percentages. I have a Coola brand sunscreen that is SPF 30 with 1.8% zinc oxide and a Juice Beauty SPF 30 with 20% zinc oxide. What does the stark difference mean? Can I use less of the Juice brand since the zinc is so high?

Hello, I have a question (or several questions, sorry). If i'm out for work at 9am and then go out again to eat at 2 or 3pm (being in the sun), should I wash my face again and apply sunscreen all over again? Because where I live, the sun is very very harsh and damaging, temperature rise up to 50ºC degrees (120ºF ) in summer. I wear 50SPF daily and I have combo skin (I use an avene sunscreen). I only apply it in the morning. Should I buy a light spray one(like an anthelios 50) so I can spray it on top in the middle of the day? What about my arms? does it work if I only apply sunscreen once? I hug a lot of dogs through the day, and i feel weird about re-applying cream over dirty arms. I should wash and apply, right? Also, i sweat a lot in summer. Help.

I have heard dermatologists say sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours...as they degrade with time. Mineral sunscreens do not degrade as quickly. Very hard to do when wearing makeup. I haven't figured it out. Any suggestions

Hi Sam, I have recently purchased the neostrata sheer physical spf 50 sunscreen. The smell is not great. Smells like a mix between a granny perfume and alchohol/vinegar (even though it contains no alchohol). Is this normal or do you think the one I ordered has gone off? I wanted to try the obagi one you use in the video but it costs £55. Please can you recommend another really good facial suncream that is not tested on animals and a reasonable price? (and doesn't smell fowl) Many thanks, Sarah

I would love to see one of these with a woman who actually wears HEAVY makeup. Not all of us are just dabbing on a bit of foundation. If I am wearing makeup I am usually wearing 2 pumps of foundation and a metric ton of undereye concealer. Before anyone makes stupid comments about how THEY prefer a womans face to look or how no woman needs that much makeup.....dont. We each get to wear our face however we like. But as I am getting older I am religious about sunscreen and it is definitely a bigger challenge under a FULL face of makeup.

Hi, may I ask how the SPF needs to be applied properly... for example are we meant to apply underneath the eyes near the waterline, including the eyelids? I use the La roche posay fluid spf50. I started applying around the eyes but wasn’t sure whether this is needed. Would like a clarification. Thanks, SerenA

What do you consider a "proper" sunscreen, mineral sunscreen to be exact? What is the minimum percentage of titanium dioxide and zinc that you feel should be in a quality sunscreen or block for the face? if you have any product recommendations that would be great too especially if any of them are tinted?

You're incorrect and it's more confusing because you claim to be a doctor. I'm really sorry because this seems like a well intentioned video and I'm sure you have the qualifications you say you do. But I want to say you're wrong. You don't need that much sunscreen. As you say the FDA and MHRA UK recommend ~2mg/cm^2. Assuming the density of the sunscreen is at 1 kg/L (you'll find it's slightly lower in a good quality product) I don't think most people's heads are that big (to need 5 mL as you suggest). Now I've never measured the size of my face, but I have put an A4 sheet over it (also pressing on the contours of my face) and it covers not only my face but also the front of my neck (plus I've got quite a fat face, due to my fat body). A4 paper size is 21cm x 29.7cm = 623.7 cm^2 and maybe add another half of the paper (for the back of your neck) gives you ~1000 cm^2 (basically more than enough). By my calculations that's 2 mL of sunscreen required. Which matches to the quarter to a third of a teaspoon many dermatology (medical) journals have stated! Please correct me if I'm wrong. This wasn't written for the sake of arguing, just for the sake of those who would be put off wearing sunscreen after not only calculating costs (which varies a lot between our measurements) and effort in trying to absorb that much product into your skin.

Purie Zeondy You are wrong: 2 mg/cm2 for the face only for a full protection (in vitro & in vivo test standards). If you want less protection, is your problem... Lab test (in vitro) were done with these standards and are replicated in vivo. That is how the SPF (FPS) is calculated.
@Sing10Sing7 жыл бұрын

Guylain Bazzo What should it be then? I didn't pull 2mg/cm^2 out of thin air, I was using information provided by her to illustrate the inaccuracies. 2:46. Either way, it is an unofficial universal standard for quantifying sunscreen. And just so you know, sunscreen in academic research (where the numbers are taken from) is calibrated for the all the skin, not specific body parts like the face.
@FrostyFreya6 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand the purpose of all those negative comments. Nobody is forcing anyone to use so much sunscreen, the video is purely informative. My approach to this is like: if you want to have healthy, young looking, wrinkle free skin you will make that work. Given the amount of money we spend on products we actually don’t need I am sure we all can afford to buy sunscreen because this is the product we actually do need, even purely to prevent skin cancer. I highly recommend using inexpensive mineral sunscreen, I buy mine in the largest possible tube that lasts for weeks. All so called “facial sunscreens “ are a rip-off. The brands want us to pay double for half the size tube. Mineral sunscreens are non irritating and you don’t have to wait 30 min for them to start working like with the chemical sunscreens which we often forget about and we get out in the sun too soon and cause damage to our skin.

@pandalien79346 жыл бұрын
Sunscreen literally makes me look like I'm too oily. It doesn't take skin types into consideration. Especially in hot climates where sweating is definitely going to be a thing. That being said, a lot of primers or moisturisers have some degree of sunscreen in them. So I honestly can't see how this will work for all people. Over here sunscreen is like R80 - R120. Which is way too expensive to waste on daily makeup. Especially if you're indoors most of the day - which most people are.

5 mls for face and neck is too much...you only need half a teaspoon for face and neck...one teaspoon works for face head and neck
@davethomas56034 жыл бұрын
No, that's actually how much dermatoligst recommend. You are definitely under applying. 5ml is enough to get your face, neck, back of the neck, and ears. This is also why foundation that has spf in it is not sufficient, because people don't actually apply enough of it for it to be adequate sun protection. They apply it lightly, as one does with foundation, rather than as a sunscreen. She also says that in the video, sis.

+Oriebir08 I'm realistic - if make-up is applied after sunscreen, I don't expect any working woman to take it off and reapply. When you say 'apply sunscreen' does that mean, that my daycream that has SPF in it, is sufficient, or should i be looking for an actual sunscreen. My usual sunscreens that i use in summer need to be re-applied after 2 hours, so does it need to be a 'Once A Day Sunscreen'?

I saw your comment and I had the same question about re-applying it every 2 hours and the answers I got were that you should only reapply it if you spend the whole say in the sun.
