Thank for this. I have quite a variety of sand and grit plus some lightweight hydrocal and some unfinished hills. This will get me through it.

We all make mistakes. Nice idea and still well presented. Wonder if you can add some colour to the mix to give a first undercoat colour as a grey rocky colour, then when you add the sand, paint it a brown for dirt so it has the rocky effect and the dirt effect. Or would paint/ink mess up the consistency too much?

I am in the process of trying to make modular cave walls and elevation pieces out of xps foam chunks. I have experimented with dm scotty's tp pva stone texture over carved foam chunks to create a cave wall with floors attached. My goal is to make my set compatible with dwarven forge. So I use 2 inch walls and half inch floors. Can you use sculptamold to do decent rock detail like in clay? I sculpt in monster clay but casting a lot of pieces is really cost prohibitive and molds for wall/floor combined pieces may be tricky to mold. I have a shit ton of foam I bought and a hotwire table. Decent knives for carving. My goal is to do natural caves quickly as my dungeon will likely have at least 40 pieces to give enough variety and decent room sizes.

Can you please tell me the makeup of crystacal as it does not seem to be available in NZ and I'm having trouble finding an equivalent. Can anyone out there help?

Hayley Bower It's called crystical, it's industrial casting power, you should be able to get it from your builders merchants. Hope that helps.

Anything with water in it will also be a bit cool to the touch when it is NOT cured. Once cured it should be the same temperature as the room.

Actually, the chemical reaction of the crystical heats the water during mixing mate, so it's quite warm on application but that's just crystical (and hydrocal from memory), not sure about plaster of paris mate.

Oh, that's cool. I was thinking how normal plaster usually feels before it is done. Guess these types work different .)

Yeah mate, it cures in under 5 minutes so there's a hell of a chemical reaction going on in the mix mate
