Stumbled across your channel this morning, trying to improve my dressing or get more ideas. I'm from southern IL, my family always called it dressing. My grandma was quick to let you know dressing is outside the bird and stuffing is inside the bird.

I’ve been experimenting with adding sausage and found a local butcher who makes apple sausage links. Otherwise it’s similar to this one. I also grate carrots for colour.

Hi Jan 👋 I think you did an amazing job the dressing vs. stuffing.. I never quite thought about it like that. Your dressing looks so delicious. Don't apologize for how you "know it" if it's dressing in your family, then dressing it is 🙂 I make my Stuffing very similar to yours. I don't toast or dry my bread (never have) I use more butter but no stock. I use sage, thyme and poultry seasoning (sparingly on the poultry seasoning) the onions, celery and eggs. Sometimes I stuff the Turkey others I make Stuffing balls. Both ways are great. I've never measured anything, that's how my mom taught me and anytime I try to measure, it doesn't work lol ty so much for sharing this recipe and your wonderful laugh/sense of humor 🌻💚

This looks amazing! I wonder if I could put everything together on thanksgiving day and then when the turkey is done and resting, just scoop a cup of broth from the turkey roasting pan and add it to the dressing right before I bake it for 30-35 minutes. This way I get the flavor without having to roast a turkey one week before. What do you think? I would use a cup of chicken broth to help the bread absorb for 5 minutes like you did and then add the broth from my thanksgiving turkey real quick before putting it in the oven. Thank you for your recipe. I enjoyed watching and appreciate how authentic you are! It feels like I am cooking with you in your kitchen.

I use half sour dough and half unsweetened cornbread. Both toasted golden brown and air dried. Then celery, onion, a little shredded carrot, garlic, parsley sage, rosemary, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, white pepper, butter, chicken stock and egg. Turns out excellent and pretty. Sometimes I add spicy browned breakfast sausage. Thanks for sharing!!!!

You are a sweetheart! Thank you for being real in your video! I love the "mishaps" along the way..shows you're having fun.😂 I'm asked to bring the dressing/stuffing this year for the work Thanksgiving party and I really like the boxed Stove Top one. So when I came across your recipe, it looks similar to the boxed version, but I'm sure taste even better. I'm going to try making it! Happy Thanksgiving and GOD bless you and yours!🦃🤗 (11/26/19) UPDATE: I made the stuffing!!! Although i used the swanson's chicken broth and my grocery store was out of fresh herbs so i used dried. All in all, i got nothing but rave reviews! I'm making it for the family's Thanksgiving get together. Oh, and when I had to warm the dish up in the microvave--it gave the dressing a nice touch! The edges and some of the bread pieces had a wonderful crunch--not too crunchy--just the right crunch! Yummmo🤤Thanks for sharing!

Hello from another Southern girl. I just discovered you today. Subscribed and liked. Your dressing looks amazing and I'll be trying it out this year. Off topic question...the jar on your counter with the coffee filter on top looks like homemade creme fraiche. Is that what it is? I make my own all the time and so I always seem to have a jar on my counter or outside on my patio since I live in a warmer climate and it sets up perfectly in 12 hours or so. It was refreshing to see that someone else makes their own creme fraiche like I do. Exited to see other videos you have to try out. Thank you for sharing

Hi Jan, you know I love the way you cook! This recipe sounds so good. Growing up we used cornbread and bread and added meat. You know my family never used sage and I always wondered why? Now my Mother is gone so I cannot ask her and my Father and I plan on making the dressing this year but I am sure he wouldn't like me changing Mom's recipe. Lol Hope you have been doing well I love all your holiday recipes that you are sharing and I will tell you now I want to make my own turkey broth. Thank you for the inspiration!--------------------------Tressa Daigle

Try adding chopped apple and some raisins. You can skip the broth if you stuff the turkey with it, the turkey juices should be enough to moisten the stuffing.

Truthfully, most people can't tell the difference between chicken broth and turkey broth once you have added the seasoning and herbs. Best to save that broth to make extra gravy.

@rieva_dircci52805 жыл бұрын
I made this and yes, eggs are necessary. Not only to bind the ingredients, but i believe it helps to keep the dish from drying out. At first, i had my misgivings as i mixed in the eggs, but i wanted to give it a try...Sure enough! It came out perfect! Made some minor alterations, but still very good!!! This will be the dish I gladly volunteer to bring to Thanksgiving parties! Delicious!
