From Durban, Natal, South Africa. Husband & I were raised and grew up in The Union of SA. We loved Chelsea Buns with a 1/4 pint of milk from the Tuck Shop at "Big Break". Your recipe has every, single taste, flavour and texture I very clearly remember. There certainly are Chelsea Buns available but they're not absolutely right. Thank you Philip, for your recipe! Great video and tips on how to make the underrated Chelsea Bun. Personally, I prefer adding the honey-based glaze but not the icing sugar - the buns are so good that for me, the icing sugar compromises the delicate mixed spices of these terrific homely buns

went for your recipe after looking at various others & glad i did, just made them, & there Fabtastic delicious, & i didn't even use any milk, was getting fed up with the usual things i've been baking and wanted some new tasty items, this will be a regular for me now, thanking U

Great video - I’ve just made some Chelsea buns from a different recipe and I know where I went wrong after watching you - I didn't take enough time rolling out my dough and I didn’t spread the filling evenly and some oozed out. Mine were tasty but messy. Must try your recipe. Thank you

Wow! I have been doing sticky sourdough for the past several months, but I'm going to have to give that up to try this! I've not heard of a Chelsea bun (showed how "cultured" I am 😳). This looks like a common rolls grown up brother. Thank you for sharing.

Hi! I’m wondering if there’s a way to make part of this recipe the night before then continue the next morning? 🧐I would like to make them for my work colleagues but as much as I like them, I don’t think I like them enough to get up so early to do the rising! 😂 thank you

Thanks I'm going to make them. Q1.How long do they last before they go stale? Q2.Can they be frozen? Q3.Is the buttermilk necessary? Q4.Is there a substitute for buttermilk? Q5. Is the milk skimed, semiskimed or full fat mikl? Thanks Tony

Philip, the buns are so yummy! my husband said he will eat them for dinner, hahaha. I was worried the spices might be overpowering but actually I love it better than just cinnamon buns. Only have all spice, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and cloves on hand, will add rest of spices and enough zest next time, kind of short. I soaked the dried fruit for 30 mins to soften and used the bread machine to knead the dough with butter for 6 mins. Will you be making scones? Thanks Becky. PS. Very nice opening music

Would you recommend to make this with a stand mixer for someone with a small workspace and little confidence with sticky bread dough? :P

Had to improvise a bit, used a mixer (went slowly and increased the speed, did a total of 4min) didn't have all the spices so I used cinnamon, allspice, and cloves, made do with my round cake pans and baked for 30min. Fresh out the oven, it's jiggly like a pudding :D thank you for sharing the recipe and filming the process

Strong white flour. (Used with yeast, easy to remember. I just check for yeast because flour names change with global location. Hope this helps. 😊
