Man I saw this choke at Jones vs Machida and I thought to myself: Which idiot gets caught in a standing guillotine choke? Today I got caught in a standing guillotine and it was tight af. Machida is a monster for not tapping.

Amazing and intelligently presented, as always. These videos with Rob are simply a gold mine of relevant grappling information. Is it too much to ask if Rob could go over the actual finishing mechanics of the arm in guillotine as well? I'm having a lot of trouble with the finish, and I love using the position to sweep so it would drastically improve my performance if I could have a high percentage finish from there as well. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to more DVDs fromyou two!

I tend to enjoy chokes a lot, my tip for the finish is make your hand into a blade and use that as the choke not the forearm.

I used to think the guillotine, especially the arm-in guillotine, was just a low percentage move until I rolled with this no-gi purple belt that specialised in them... wow. He must have got me with 20 or more arm-in guillotines over the course of 5 or 6 rolls. So yeah, I'm now a believer, here to learn that wizardry.

I'm confused about the technical aspect of a standing guillotine. when applying to you have pressure on the windpipe it not? because unless you turn them I seems to naturally fall in that way maybe you can make a video focusing from that

I love G's. Hit them quite a bit even from guard. Great video however the problem I have with this is does anybody teach true GJJ anymore? If your armpit isn't on the neck and your elbow to the floor you've already lost it. If armpit > neck, elbow > floor you've already locked it in no matter if you're standing or pull guard. Guaranteed. Especially if you pulled guard. From there you can pull with your legs and turn into it making it hell. Every position he showed his elbow was out to the right. That's an easy out all day long for any GJJ practitioner. Just my two cents.

I got a purple belt in a standing guillotine on my second bjj session. Got it to the ground but he tapped me out by just pushing his free shoulder into my throat. Would it have been best to release the guillotine and defend my neck?

Guys I've got a question. I've trained BJJ for like a year tho, so I'm not that experienced. Why do I see people try guillotines with their arm in? And even when the arm isn't in, why do they use Gable Grip? The sub I could get more consistently was a guillotine with a rear naked choke grip, and pulling guard. I don't understand why you would do anything but that. Is there a reason to why that's not good?
@jakesivilla9321
@jakesivilla9321 6 жыл бұрын
mcteoful For the record I’m just a white belt as well, but nobody has responded to you in some time so I thought I’d lend my opinion. Anyways, it’s considered “trapping the arm.” From the sound of it, I’m guessing it’s about making it harder to escape, but I’m not entirely sure about that or to what extent if it is the case. Marcelo Garcia’s version of the guillotine I heard is much, much tighter so an arm-in guillotine may be about sacrificing the intensity of the choke for higher security. Edit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goW5iWCHpM-MgNk This video by Firas Zahabi may suggest another reason why people use arm-in guillotines and gable grips. Essentially, if you have an arm-in guillotine, you also have a D’arce as a secondary option, and if you have a D’arce you have a guillotine.

mcteoful the guilotine is an air choke and not a blood choke the rnc grip is a blood choke not as affective as the crank. But if it works for you stick with it

Another fellow white belt :D the head and arm grip is what you often lock while defending takedowns or attempting darce/anaconda chokes. From my limited experience the marcelotines are a lot easier to finish (especially in gi) but I almost always go to them after having problems finishing one handed or arm in guillotines.
