I use the 3-6-9 method for years using a half board off strike shot to make all spares on the left side except 7-pin. For the 7 pin it depends on how much oil is in middle of the lane. I tried this method this past weekend in a Christian Bowling tournament I was bowling in. When I missed the 7-pin using 3-6-9 method my normal way, the next time I lined up 9 boards right of strike shot grabbed my plastic T-Zone ball, flattened my wrist, looked at the middle arrow and made the shot to pick up the 7-pin. I did this realizing what was in front of me as there was a lot of oil in the middle of the lane. I believe the key using this method is knowing your ball motion down lane. If not know what your ball will do down lane, use a plastic ball and the middle arrow for your spares. This method will take the lane out of it because spare balls don't hook. Very good knowledge and information. PM

I have definitely heard of this system and I really liked your comment that if you leave up a 4 pin it might be the lane telling you what's to come (split). I then to move further right about 3 board but i also do move my eyes as well as my mark. I feel that it gives me more of an angle and as I aim it. I also throw my urethane at it since it wont break as much when i take off hand.

Glad this is helpful! If you do leave a 4 pin, you're probably going a little high on the head pin and if that happens be sure to move your feet (and eyes most likely) in the direction of the miss which would be left. Hope that helps you! Thank you for the comment

I look at the dots on strikes. Sometimes on certain spares I move right and try and hit the same spot. Other times I just move my feet around until one of the arrows is lined up with the pin and then throw at a more inside dot on the lane. 7 and 10 pins I move to the opposite side of approach and throw across the middle arrow. I seem to miss left more often than right so I am experimenting with foot and hand position in regards to staggering one forward of the other. Also I sometimes rush a little when in league as others are waiting. I found out our league house shot is only 38' and it is a non-friction Kegel oil. I think this is much harder to get a consistent hook on so I will be trying surface, maybe plugging and redrilling with pin more to the right, or getting a new asym ball with med flare layout and lower RG diff which in theory adds revs.

The dots are another option I know a lot of bowlers use and find success with. Whatever works best for you to knock them down is what I would go with! And that is great you are experimenting with layout and surface changes. There are so many components that go into bowling, aren't there? Thanks for the comment!

My difficulty which has led to horribly atrocious league scores is raising my head too soon and looking at the pins and not the arrows in the lane. I listened to other 3-6-9 videos before and your video was slightly different and hopefully helpful for me. You stated to aim your body at the direction of the lead pin with spare shots. I will remember that next time with bowling.

Interesting way of doing it. I thought I remember seeing on other videos that you're supposed to keep your eyes at the same place you do for your strike shot, the only thing that you move is your feet 3-6-9. Maybe I need to go back and watch those video's again and see if I missed something. Thanks

If that works for you I wouldn't change it! But I do find changing the angle not just with the feet is helpful for making the left side spares. Especially if you are hooking at them

I hook at double wood and 4 pins and go straight at everything else

So Rebecca, how would this 3 6 9 system work for single pin left spares when using a hard plastic spare ball? My spare ball does not hook at all and would miss the 7 pin using this system. I have tried using my strike ball for 7 pins, but sometimes there is so much oil in the middle I have missed. Many Pros go straight at single pins with spare balls.

You could use this system with a straight ball too. I would still move your feet 9 boards right and then draw a line between your feet and the 7 pin and that's your mark by the arrows to hit. By going at an angle like this for corner pins it opens up the lane for us so we have less likely chance to miss or for it to drop in the gutter. Hope that helps!

The 10 pin is tough for me..im a right and it hooks so I just miss it..

I hear and see that a lot and have a video coming next week on this topic! Are you using a spare ball for your 10 pin? That will definitely help. You could also use a house ball for this or work on flattening out your hand so it won't hook. Hope that helps!

@@RebeccaBowls I have a spare ball but seems i always throw it as if im hooking it..I will try to flatten out my hand. I usually use my Storm and get as close to gutter as possible..but unfortunately..most of the time it either hooks just enough to miss pin or goes into the gutter....Thank you so much.

@@ruthkjaer7203 have you tried standing left (board 36 is what I do) and throwing straight over the middle arrow? When you go more up the right side of the lane it has a higher chance of hooking away. Going at an angle gives your more lane to use. My video about this will go up next week

@@RebeccaBowls I use the same method, only I stand at 37 and aim at 17 to pick up the 10 pin. I use a plastic ball that doesn't hook at all.
