Hi sorry I'm new to all this, but how does one listen to the song their playing to? I've got my ipod into a line going into the interface. Garage band is recording it just fine...but can't figure out how to listen to it while playing drums. I'm using a Tascam US16X08 interface. "Phones" has no sound in it" No sound coming from phones while jacked into Imac. What am i doing wrong?

David Keller The way I do it is to drop the song file you want to play along to into its own separate track in your program. In your case garage band. As long as your track isn’t muted and your headphones are turned up on the interface it should be good to go. That way you can avoid using the iPod, play to the song and record in real time and you can then just mix it however you like instead of having to match the sound files later.

Can I make a drum over with a copyright song like heavy dirty soul from 21 pilots, when I just buy it for my self. Do I get a strike when I do this?

I have a question. How do you record a drum cover and then add music to it? Because if you want to listen to the song in headphones, how can the viewers hear it too? I’m so confused, I’m sorry :(
@RichardNashIV4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lulu! The easiest way is to use a program like Garageband or Logic Pro if you have a Mac, or something like Reaper or Protools if you use a PC. Reaper is free and easy to use. Basically, you'll create a track in the program for your music file (mp3 or otherwise) to go into, and put the music on that track. Then, you'll record your drums using whatever microphone setup you have while playing along to the music on a separate track (or tracks, if you have multiple mics). I hope that helps :)

Richard Nash that is quite confusing😅 I don’t have a Mac so if I use iMovie would it work? Also isn’t it easier if you just record drums only while you’re listening to the song in your headphones and then you sync the drums only video with the song?

I like your set ups and what was the the audio program you use for your drum tracks and you also run your track your playing to through the same system and just basically play it into the program just like another mic.. right ? If not please explain if ya don’t care thanks man good video
@RichardNashIV6 жыл бұрын
KY Trapping Outdoors Hey man: the program I use to record my drum tracks is called Reaper. Its either free or very cheap depending on how you decide to use it. The audio play along track is simply inserted onto a new track in reaper, I usually put it below my Drum microphone tracks but you can put it wherever you like on a new track. From there you just adjust the volume level essentially so that you can hear the music but the drums of course are above it if that makes sense. That’s a quick run down :)

Where do you find the music without drum tracks?
@RichardNashIV6 жыл бұрын
Frank Frati The secret is that you don’t :) you’re going to lower the audio enough on the original track, and your drums will sit on top of it in the mix. Since you’ll be playing the basic beat (and whatever else you add) it ends up that you only hear your drums and not the songs!

Do you record over the original drums? Or do you mute them out somehow?
@RichardNashIV6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan, I record over the original drums. I typically lower the overall track volume of the song itself, while increasing volume of my individual drums to where they need to be. It's sort of a trick of the ear, as you usually can't hear the drums underneath mine from the original track, but you can still hear the rest of the music obviously. Some of this is in the playing, too - you have to make sure to hit the original notes for the most part, and any embellishments or additions would be on top of the original composition. Hope that helps :)
