You're perfectly pkaced to put together a beginner kit. I saw one on eBay for $45 and Amazon for $50. I haven't checked out what is included yet, but I will when I finish your video. Thanks!

Once I get consistent in making gemstones I might start making kits but I just don’t enough rough or rub to do it. Maybe soon though!! Thank you for watching!!

This takes me back to when I started polishing stones by hand. Now I my cabing machine. You can also make some adapters for your rotatory tool. To help you polish and grind faster. Also, make a water drip system that rock dust is not healthy at all.

Aww that sounds so fun!! I’m hoping to save up for a cabbing machine and facet machine. I wear a mask while sanding because of the dust but yes I definitely need to make a drip system. I’ve been looking at some ideas for it. Thank you for watching I hope your enjoyed

Hi! Great video! This is just meant as constructive criticism, with LOVE. It is pronounced: MOhs with a long "O". A roughed out cabochon is called a "rub", just as it's spelled, and as referring to cut gemstones, it's called a "fasset,(facet), there is no 'au' sound. I enjoyed listening and watching your video. I think I have more to learn about cutting cabochons and faceted gems!

Thank you so much!! I watch a lot of videos of people with different accents and I swear I hear it different every time I have no idea if I pronounce things right lol I appreciate it 🫶. I’m glad you enjoyed I hope hearing my incorrect pronunciation didn’t distract too bad 😂 thank you for watching and for commenting!!

Any recommendations on where to source the gemstones or beginner kit? Thanks!

One of my gemstone dealers randomly had a one time deal on instagram for them. He doesn’t do them anymore but I’ve seen on Etsy where you can find kits like that with great options all the time!! Look up “lapidary beginner kits or hand polishing gemstone kit” on Etsy or even on safari. I recommend starting with Ethiopian opals as they’re cheaper. If not you can look up everything I mentioned in the video needed separately, and search “gemstone rough” or “gemstone rub” on Etsy or safari and you’ll find tons of options

To save money buy your sandpaper at harbor freight. And cut them in half. It’s also better sandpaper. Water resistant Aluminum oxide. Especially in the higher number grit. They are separated I believe they have 5 sheets per grit. Harbor Freight is cheap cheap cheap. I even buy my rotary tool bits that are diamond grit. Downside to them is they are a lower number grit (rough) You can start out with a Vevor cabbing machine. Much cheaper then Pacific diamond, Cab king and so on. Then move up to the more expensive machines. I started with sandpaper but having rheumatoid arthritis it caused me much pain. Interested and finishing the video. Silicosis is what happens to our lungs when breathing in rock dust high in silica. Also asbestos, strict nine and other heavy metals is not good to breathe to all that do not know that is watching this video in that and that is why she is saying to wear a mask. Water does help control the dust. I get teased cause I use water and mask. In my opinion you could breath in the toxin’s with the water spray with the rock dust. I washed the stone between sanding grits as to not cross contaminate Anyhow can’t wait finish watching. So far so good.

Thank you for your input!! I adore harbor freight and idk why I hadn’t thought to look at their sandpaper options!! Thank you so much for commenting!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the video🥰 that’s awesome advice I really appreciate it, I will definitely be checking into those cabbing machines first. And yes it’s better to use a mask AND water. Thank you again I hope you have fun making stones yourself 🫶
