Mix acetone with ATF, it's better than anything you can buy in the store, just don't get acetone on any painted surfaces you care about because it is literally paint remover.

When you are using an impact and you see smoke coming off it, it’s a good time to give it a rest. Usually, heat makes it easier, but that’s in the case of applying heat to the nut to expand it, less heat transfers to the bolt due to all the rust, so although the nut expands, the bolt doesn’t. In this case, it’s purely the friction between the bolt and the fastener, the bolt will expand and get tighter. As far as PB Blaster, Kroil, Liquid Wrench and all the others, plus acetone and ATF, I’ve yet to see an instance where they ever penetrated even one thread. Nothing works as well as an oxy/acetylene torch, or something that can get the nut hot enough to turn red.

Couldn't agree more, external heat is king. Also angle grinders if theres space and you have spares.

Once its been smoking for a couple minute, re-add both PB and acetone otherwise you are probably dry. Good vid.

Interesting use of chemistry. Why don't you apply more acetone and PB if it tightens up again?

I've heard that used before, and it is really good at rust busting. What type of container do you put the mixture in?
@thevauxhallman71577 күн бұрын
@@dustinbrown2668I used a glass container. I recently used the 50/50 acetone and transmission oil and let it soak for 2 - 3 days making sure to agitate it with a brush to give it the best chance of success, in my case I used a press as well, that i made, i managed to get the bolt to move. Saving me from removing the subframe.

Acetone is a solvent. It “thins” oil. (Which is a lubricant). PB Blaster is basically a solvent thinned oil. Putting acetone on top of PB Blaster thins the oil in PB even more, carrying the lubricant further into the rust. (Sometimes thru capillary action, and of course with gravity). Rust is very porous.

If you don't have acetone around, try brake fluid (NOT brake cleaner). I apply it with a Q-Tip (don't get it on painted surfaces!) and wait an hour or so. Then, tap it with a hammer a few times and use a cheater bar. Once it starts moving, put more brake fluid on it and let it soak some more and tap it again as needed. Definitely move the bolt in both directions as you go; take it slowly.

Acetone has incredibly low viscosity and that is key. Ether is just the same. Both take a bit of the oil molecules with them into the iron oxide crystal structure.

Try "Ed's Red" solution = 1/3 acetone + 1/3 auto transmission fluid + 1/3 kerosene. Apply several times and wait for it to work - over several days. Also, apply heat if possible. Be patient.

Everyone who has some experience working on cars , probably have noticed that bolts and nuts is much easier to loose in wet wether . So ,one my friend invented water / liquid soap ( very small amount ) mix sprayed by regular spray bottle from glass cleaner . Works flawlessly and is much safer for human health. Seems the soap in the mix, lower the surface tension of water which help it easier to penetrate in the threads .

ATF and Kerosene is another mix, old gasoline & ATF is another mix that seems to work, and Free All from Oreilley's works way better than PB Blaster or WD40. -- FWIW.... the large breaker bar (harbor freight) and 1/2 inch impact sockets and pipe, - go SLOWLY, works too.
