How to Mark a Patchwork Quilt Block

Hi Leah, I am an experienced free motion quilter. I am really enjoying your video's, they open my mind to another creative process. Another alternative to the light box is a florescent light and a clear sewing machine quilting table. The light gives quite a bright light just for the dark colors. Thank you for your videos. Do you mark and quilt one block at a time and then assemble the blocks. How would you mark a king-size quilt. I have just been doing free-motion learned from one of your Crafty classes but I don't mark just sort of go with what I think looks best in each area? You are a fantastic teacher.

+Fred and Elaine DeFoor - For this project we are quilting the blocks separately so each is marked and quilted. For a bigger quilt, you would mark the whole thing or sections as it's convenient to mark. +Crafting Capricorn By Clair - No, a longarm would be used only for quilting, not for piecing. This block was pieced on a home sewing machine - the Juki Exceed F400. What exactly is the problem? If it's just matching seams, it's important to understand that this takes time to master and won't be perfect the first time you try it.

How can you mark the block if you use black as your background?

+Georgette M - A really bright lightbox will usually show through black. Another alternative is to transfer the design to freezer paper and cut out the design with scissors, then press the freezer paper in place and mark from the surface. It's a bit more work, but you will definitely be able to see what you're doing!
