Thank you for sharing your purpose. If you want to watch dramas without subtitles, you should focus on improving your listening and vocabulary. The most important thing is to find a favorite Korean podcast within a month, and then listen to it every day. Make it your habit to listen to podcasts so that you can do this every day for at least three years. 화이팅!

After studying Hangul, it is important to learn basic grammar. My basic grammar course 1 is also good, but I recommend you to buy at least one basic grammar book and study yourself.

I can say we use '았/었다' ending rather than '-는다' ending. Because '-는다' describes 'what is happening right now'. But as you know we write 'what we did today' in a diary.
