Intriguing video, for which I thank you both. I'm a bit confused, though, about what you describe as 'jumping in.' Ordinarily, aren't the feet supposed to be the same distance apart? I realise that if one is moving to the right, one moves with the right foot first, and vice versa when moving to the left. However, isn't the other foot supposed to move very shortly thereafter so that the feet are again the same distance apart (without crossing the feet, of course)? I use the word 'ordinarily' because I realise that regarding the jab, one can leave the rear foot planted and move the front foot forward to land the jab, only thereafter to return the front foot back to the initial position (so feet are the same distance apart)? I had, however, thought this was more of an 'amateur' boxing manoeuvre, designed for quick 'tap tap' scoring (I was taught the manoeuvre many years ago by a great amateur, Errol Christie). Not so good, though, if having just thrown the jab one realises that one would otherwise have been in a position to throw the rear hand, but one is prevented from doing so (straight away at least) due to one's feet being (relatively) wide apart (the front foot is forward and the rear foot is planted way back - 'giving birth' as I once heard it called!). Surely the better bet is to 'jump in' as you describe it, i.e. with the front foot moving sensibly forward (no silly lunge, of course) and the rear foot following mighty quickly almost at the same time? In such circumstances, the jab is probably going to be harder (because one has more momentum behind it as the rear foot is coming) and one is in a position to throw the rear hand immediately if appropriate? If on the other hand, the rear hand is not appropriate, surely one can either retreat via the back foot getting one the heck out of there? Admittedly, it's not quite as safe as having the rear foot planted further back, but it seems to me that the pros (regarding the options to throw a fast and powerful rear hand and the fact that the jab is going to be heavier) outweigh the cons. Alternatively, there are the pivots and 'bob and weaves' which you discuss in, among other courses, your angles video. Personally, I've never liked leaving the rear foot rooted while throwing the jab for the reasons given above. I would be very interested to receive your comments.
@christophereverest4547 Жыл бұрын
A further thought. If by 'stepping in', you mean moving both feet simultaneously towards the target when throwing the jab (as opposed to front foot first with rear foot following swiftly but not simultaneously behind), am not sure that Eddie actually does this in your video demo. Presumably, it's difficult for him to make such a mistake. What about the pendulum step, though? Should you never throw the jab while doing the step? That is to say, should you always stop the pendulum, set the feet and throw it as you suggest? Seems to me the pendulum step sort of invites one to throw the jab while 'jumping in'. Again, any and all comments would be welcome.
