Are you matching your lure weight with your inshore spinning rod rating?
If you're casting lures that are too heavy or too light for your fishing rod, you are likely affecting your performance on the water.
Rods are rated for a certain range of weight that can be casted so you want to make sure you are using lures that are in that range.
But don't forget about the hook's weight as well.
It's the weight of the lure plus the hook that should be accounted for.
So in this video, find out why this is so important to your casting ability!
Have any questions about matching up your lures with your spinning rods?

As primarily a fly fisherman, I'm all too familiar with matching rod, reel, line, leader, fly. It's a matter of necessity when a balanced outfit is essential to even just casting. Now, because of that, I definitely check my spinning rods weight range when selecting lures. Although I will go a little heavier and haven't had anything break yet.

My question that I can't find too much info on, does the lure weight also apply to my max inline weight size when fishing with just a hook and nightcrawler setup? Been using a 1/2oz inline weight and just noticed the other day that my poll is only rated up to 1/4oz lures.

I bought a bull bay banshee rod MH rated for 3/8-3/4 and like to throw the slam shady on a 3/16 jig head. Comes out to just under 3/8. Think it’s anything to really worry about?

I don't recommend this but if you had to do it.. Do it slowly and use like 30% of your normal casting force.

This is very helpful. Unfortunately, im using the ufish 150 rod with lighter lures, now I learned that that's not a very smart idea. Any tips? I think I'll just stick up with it, it's alright. Also im definitely not a serious fisherman, i just like to be in nature

I know this video is older but my question is does the "lure weight" actually mean(bait casting) the weight of sinker PLUS bait in total. I.e.rod is rated for 3-8 oz.So I use a 5 oz sinker PLUS 1 oz of bait for a total of 6oz. I ask because I have friends that insist I am wrong.They would use an 8oz weight PLUS bait.I can see it in the lack of distance in there casting but I though I would ask a pro.Thx

@@chrisjones720 is a 7ft medium heavy baitcaster a good all around rod for bass fishing?
@chrisjones720
@chrisjones720 2 жыл бұрын
@@daytonsmith8910 Yes, but it also depends on what type of lures you’re throwing too, if you throw lipless or Crankbaits you want something with a more softer action because you’ll be pulling the hooks out of the fishes mouth. Usually with those type of lures moderate action rods work best.

OK. So I understand the LURE weight as it relates to casting distance. But I don't understand the line weight issue. What does it matter if I use 10 pound line on a rod that says 4-8 pound line? (just an example) Is it just casting distance? I mostly use downriggers in very deep water (80-300 feet). I seldom cast anything.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 6 ай бұрын
Casting distance is severely lowered and if you do happen to high-stick the rod, then it has a higher chance of breaking.

Does lure wight also determine how big fish can you pull out? Because some rods state lure weight and some have LB, like 20-30 LB

Hook size can impact fish size and getting a good hook set. Also, smaller hooks or lures might bend with bigger fish.

It will depend on the depth you want to fish. A heavier jig will sit lower in the water while a lighter one will be higher towards the surface.
