Thank you very much for this. Never would have known how to judge the wear in the apron chain with out your help. Thanks again!

I never knew how to measure a chain on these balers for wear. I always just look at the chain rollers to see how thin and worn they were or looked to see if there was worn pin slots. I have had 3 of these balers in time and have had the apron chain snap on several occasions before we bought a baker with new chains. My dad was tight with money and would just buy replacement links and we would spend an afternoon replacing worn links. I would never do that many again now that I'm older lol.

So I count out 24 rivets then measure distance from one to the other

For CA550 or CA557 chain that is correct. Try to measure center to center on those rivets.

Your chart is a little cut off. How bad is 38.25"? I've got a NH851
@bbatta72664 жыл бұрын
38.5 is completely worn out so yours is very worn. Some will still bale for awhile but I wouldn't fill the baler all the way. That will not produce a very tight bale given the 851's are spring tension balers.

Thanks. Got a little bit of field left and the chain just broke not too long after I started a bale. I was able to get the door open and I actually un rolled the bale.

@@robertscottII you can get repair links and put it back together. It's just a short term bandaid though. Yours is probably too far gone to put many bales through it.

@@robertscottII that is no fun when the overhead chain breaks, has happened to us several times over the years on our first 850 baler.
