I recently upgraded from an iPhone 7 to a iPhone 13 mini. The 13 mini is huge upgrade from the 7; battery life, cameras, full screen, phone speed, etc. are wonderful. I had the 13 mini for roughly a week in a half and then bam, I started to notice eye strain. I didn’t get nausea or headaches as some have reported, but just dry eye and noticeable discomfort accompanied by occasional vision blurriness. I was aware of PWM prior to upgrading, but after going to different stores and looking at the phone, it didn’t have an noticeable affect on me at all. Like I previously stated, I didn’t notice the affects until after upgrading and having the phone for roughly a week in a half. Unfortunately, this PWM issue really takes the joy out of using this phone. Even now as I type I can feel the eye discomfort and have to look away periodically and blink rapidly. On a better note, thank you for your video. Using white point, adjusting brightness (to 100%) and using dark mode have helped. I also have significantly reduced my screen time from like 5 hours a day to like a hour and a half a day (if that). I also try to hold my phone at a half arms length distance. In closing, if your looking to upgrade to a phone w/ a OLED screen please be aware of possible eye issues that could occur if you have sensitive eyes like I appear to have. It may be best to go w/ a phone w/ a LCD display like a iPhone 11 or SE 2022; I’ve read these phones have no PWM. Or, if you’re going to stick it out (like I may have to), hopefully Apple releases a software update that helps resolve this PWM issue since it appears to be a software problem. This sucks man lol. I hope this helps. Thanks.

@svartling2 жыл бұрын
No not with this method. To reduce PWM you need to have 100% brightness. Reduce whitepoint is only if the screen gets too bright with always 100% brightness.
@Smart.Potato3 жыл бұрын
reduce white point does not decrease pwm. I tested this on my iPhone X with reduce white point at 99% and brightness 100% still when I record slow mo video of screen it still flickers ☹️
@svartling3 жыл бұрын
At full brightness there is no PWM dimming so PWM flickering is not active then. And that's why you should reduce white point so you always can have full brightness. And I don't have PWM flickering on my iPhone XS Max with full brightness when recording screen with slo mo
@JamesAutoDude3 жыл бұрын
@@svartling unfortunately there can be PWM even at 100% brightness. Just means it's a hardware/limitation problem and not a software/screen problem at that point

It still has flickering when reducing white point to 100% and brightness all they way up. If you film iPhone 12 in slo motion with another phone or tablet, you will see the flicker
@svartling3 жыл бұрын
Very negligible because the PWM dimming technology should not kick in on 100% brightness because it doesn't need to dimm the display. It's so little that most people doesn't suffer from it. It's not until you lower the brightness that it gets too much to be a problem. And also, turn off auto brightness. I should have said that in the video. I forgot that.

I just thought the e ink would be perfect (no pwm and no blue light) but it's not. Do you have any kind of explanation ? Thanks again

Easier solution to guarantee no issues with PWM is buy an OLED phone with DC dimming. Oppo find x2 pro or find x3 pro can do this when you select low light flicker free option. May be more phones out there but much better than the above solution if you want to be free once and for all.
