If you kiss a girl wrong place wrong time you get a slap, wright place wright time you may get extra! As i have always said, it's about knowing the croud, feeling the mood and playing for the night. j

stebok - yes you are right, if u have got a nice hip-hop collection it would sound much much better to start for example with bpm range 90-100. But keep in mind in this video J chose hip-hop track of 73 bpm because that sets a good example of tone change of the music so the viewer can make better decision about choosing best track with bpm that best fits into the mix. After all 73 is almost as low as most hip-hop tracks go and J could of been demonstrating maybe "worst case scenario" in the mix

after watching what Ellaskins did again, I would personally go a bit further and while reducing the house track repeat press cue on the Hip-hop/Rnb track, this adds a layer to the mix that will mask/overlay/hide the reduction of the house track, which the crowd might notice if done too fast. Or just reduce the house track VERY GRADUALLY.

tnx man.. no more four to the floor, now i can use some old school grooves!

Master Tempo was on, so yes, sort of. Software keylocking is much better than hardware in most scenarios, but the CDJ1000s do have very good keylocking.

WOW that sound good when you put the second track in. sorry for my english ( i'm dutch)
@devidia10 жыл бұрын
not such a big fan of speeding up or slowing down the bpm that much. any other suggestions maybe?
@WilliamFrogge8 жыл бұрын
+devidia Transition tracks.... Good example would be if you are playing a rap/trap tune and want to go to something in the 124-128 BPM range. Use some thing like Tiesto & The Chainsmokers - Split (Only U) and queue it at this songs break. When the rap/trap song ends or hits right at the end of the build slam in this higher BPM track at this point and let it build for you.

because cdjs and a mixer have alot more functions on them. controllerism is just diffferent and alot of people prefer cdjs and a mixer

those cdjs are crazy. damn nice vid

That was fantasctic. I tried this but it sounded like my old mowing machine ... Ill try again, thx :)

Would it not be better to go into Double/half time, that way the pitch changes much less
@w1nDbReAkEr14 жыл бұрын
question. . . say you're wanting to move from house to hip hop without breaking the flow of the music , is there a smoother or less obvious way to do this (what you're doing in your video) than simply cranking back the bpm on the track that's currently playing? or is that the smoothest way?
@stefanmplayer15 жыл бұрын
i have a pioneer cdj 400 and a denon dns 1000 so i can't really mix with those two cause when the denon says a track is like 134 BPM and i load the same track in the pioneer and it will say that the track is around a 140 or 125 bpm and i'm a beginner so i cant do it using only my ears(n)
@mechwarreir215 жыл бұрын
can you mix smooth very slow hip hop with very fast and rough drum and bass??

Forgive me for asking (I don't use CD players) but is that track key locked as well or does it do it automatically? I find the key lock on my turntables isn't very good but when using the key lock on the Serato Scratch Live there is no distortion or anything!
@capitanoinsano15 жыл бұрын
nvm got it figured. cheers for the vid ellaskins!

How would it sound setting the house track to 146 bpms?
@SkeletinProductions15 жыл бұрын
what if he sped it up the house track to double the bpm of the hip hop one that could work
@TAKTAK_Toys12 жыл бұрын
what I like to do is slow the house music track down, taking the example from the above vid to say 80BPM, but slightly speed up the Hip-hop/RNB tune to 80 BPM to mix them, the thing to avoid here is making the hip-hop/Rnb tune sound too fast (cheesy) or the house tune sound too slow (distrupts the pace of the dancefloor) middle ground is key. :)

Another nice tutorial! I've been primarily mixing hip-hop since I started deejaying but I've just started experimenting with house and combining the two and it's mad fun.
@DigitalBoxWorld14 жыл бұрын
in the dj mixes ive heard long instrumentals before the song comes on. do they have copies of the song wit just the instrumental then they drop the song. they dont sound like loops?lol you get me. I cant even get wat I want to say out?
@blingblingeddy14 жыл бұрын
@DJZONER1 lol is just a case for the mixer i have one :) and that mixer is the Pionner DJM-800 ^^
@AgormortisRR115 жыл бұрын
Couldnt just speed the house to 146 and Half-time the hiphopper in? Just a 14 bpm increase. Less noticeable than dropping 60 or so bpm. It would sound more interesting I'd think too. But I dont DJ, I'm a metalhead, so pardon me.
@illtempogigante12 жыл бұрын
a tv show on how to fuck up songs... house 130 is not produced to be spun at 73 bpm.. if u cant hear that the quality drops to a fatal when dropping the bpm u shouldnt be dj ing at all.. put it up to 140, make a loop, cut the bass and then play the hip hop at 70(half of 140).as the two tracks go on you can filter end echo the loop out.. that way u dont insult the producer.. less pitchy, more creative and u keep the rythm and interest of the crowd..
@iceman977th15 жыл бұрын
Just curious, even though the loop sets are different, wouldn't it have been more efficient to go up to about 140bpm on the house track and slow the hip hop track down a bit?
@mcazz20715 жыл бұрын
great tutorial, but i would have done it differently coz the house song sounds crap when its too slow . . . if the hip-hop beat is 73 BPM then i would have just sped up the house beat to 146 BPM so its double the speed . . . its less noticeable and less drastic going from 130 to 146 than going from 130 down to 73 BPM . . . just my opinion
@worldcomedyproducts12 жыл бұрын
ya mainly. and keep in mind that this was in 2008. controllerism wasnt really big back then. but i personally prefer controllers too because there soo much easier to setup and they do have a lot of functions. not as much as, say a djm 800 but enough to fit my needs
@infinite56212 жыл бұрын
Another thing you can do to transition is throw in a pop song of about100bpm crank it up to about 112bpm and slow the house track to 112bpm. then slow pop track to it's normal bpm and then slow it down and speed up a hip hop song... smoother 3 genre transition.
@arnaringiingason13 жыл бұрын
@MrPoonDon No, but if you calculate a little, 73 x 2 = 146. So you can decrease the BPM of the hip hop tune to 70 and then you will increase the speed of the house tune to 140 so you have one song in normal time and the other in half time (sort of). try it yourself :)
@STREET1LLEGAL14 жыл бұрын
Jonathan, your equipment looks expensive. I'm the absolute novice and want a set like that, but don't want to pay a lot and don't have a lot of money to spend. any suggestions on equipment? and thank you for the tutorials; they are helping me understand and learn a lot! :)

this is also goes to proove that House and Hip hop dont like each other when it comes to time that would kill a dance floor

@BudgeBurnley14 жыл бұрын
WHen you lower the tempo, how come the pitch doesn't drop? is the just a feature of the 1000's as this isnt the case on 800's as far as im aware
@mrwhodr14 жыл бұрын
Orrrr you could of just raised the house track to 134 and the hip hop track to 67 and gone on half measures. or 130/65, w/ master tempo on
@sjloefrens12 жыл бұрын
Sometimes when one bpm is 68 and got a house of128 i speed up the house to 136 (2x68) And than let in the other track whit 68.

what would u reccomend for a young dude starting out tryin to get into the dj thing? like wat turntables are best? and all that?
@stebok16 жыл бұрын
maybe it would of been better to get a faster hiphop track so u wouldnt reduce from 130 all the way down to 73 ?
@michael-qg9bu8 жыл бұрын
anyone know the name of the hip hop track please !
@FishermanRN12 жыл бұрын
Nice! But you also could say 73 is 146, then you change your first (house) with less pitch percent. :p
