How to handle companies where Current CTC and Expected CTC is a mandatory field to fill in the forms? Is there still a change of negotiation once we have filled in Expected CTC?

Hi John, Thanks for the insightful tips. I am expecting the offer soon for an L5 role at Amazon. During the first round interview i gave my salary expectation to the HR, so would that effect my total compensation or they would provide me a compensation wrt the role itself?
@JonathanIvy2212 жыл бұрын
You messed up lol first person to give a number losses the game. You could’ve said “at the moment this is not important to me. I’d like to focus on the interview first. I’m sure we both can come to a number that makes us both happy”

Hey John, I had 2 offers, and the recruiter insisted that I select one before a package was drawn up (different recruiters) . I am waiting for this to come through, but wondering if this can still be used as leverage?

Hi Marty, Thanks a lot for your videos. I really enjoy watching them. I‘m from Germany and I applied for a Job in Germany which is rated with PM lvl 6 most probably. I‘ve 17 years of international experience. My question is what I can ask for. I‘m going now to my second round after I had my first phone interview. German and US salary seems to be different. Do you know what I can ask for? Would Amazon kick me out immediately if my expectation is to high? Thanks a lot Marty

Thanks! I used your tips and Holly Lee's info to get quite a bump from the initial offer. 👍. It's amazing just how powerful being quiet was.... I could feel the recruiter start hustling not to lose me. 😉

Hi John. Great video, as usual! In this video, and in the previous 5 leverages video, you're assuming that the person being offered a job at Amazon is already working somewhere else. This makes it a bit easier to negotiate a higher salary. But how can I negotiate if I'm currently unemployed? I don't believe I have that negotiation power to get an additional 10-20% OR a higher signing bonus OR higher RSUs. What is your suggestion in this case? I understand that I still have all the leverages, but the HR negotiating the salary with me knows I'm currently unemployed and may not offer any room...

Hi John, I really like your video, I just got an offer from Amazon. I have 4.5 YOE. I applied for a L5 software engineer position, but got an offer as L4, Is it possible to negotiate the level? Look forward for your reply, need to reply the recruiter in two days. Thanks for your advice.
@JohnMarty-uncommon4 жыл бұрын
Hey Fang, thanks! Probably not possible to negotiate the level because that was collectively decided between the people you interviewed with. You can negotiate the salary though

the recruiter offered me €38,000 a year for Amazon Vendor Services Senior Catalog Associate. She said she will check if I can get a better offer, I did not give a number. She told me it is a strong offer so they really want me, and it is L3 position and I can be L4 within a year. I have to relocate from Sweden to Netherlands but there is no relocation package. Any idea how much can I get them to increase it without getting a "no" answer?

Hi Marty, fantastic video! I'd like to know how many RSU's should an AWS L6 (Senior Engagement Manager) in Herndon expect on top of base salary?
@JohnMarty-uncommon4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rajeev, all depends on your negotiation leverage. I would guess between 80-200 shares.

This is great! Currently in the last phases of an interview and hoping to have the opp to negotiate but feeling a bit nervous about the process/conversation. Would the script guideline you gave be useful for email & in person?
@JohnMarty-uncommon5 жыл бұрын
Hi China, you will definitely have an opportunity to negotiate. They are expecting you to. I would use that script either for a call or email, but tailor it in a way that sounds natural for you. Remember to illustrate/highlight where you bring the most to the table. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Hi John thank you so much for this helpful video. I currently have an offer Amazon for a non-technical corporate position and they just extended the offer. I told them that I would get back to them within 24 hours after asking him negotiation as possible and they told me that it is a high competitive rate as is. The recruiter stressed that she will try with the finance and the hiring managers to revisit my requests. Now I have to make A counter offer. Should I only touch on my desired base pay percentage increase or also punch on the stocks and sign on bonus?

Hey John, I have a question: I am at the final onsite stage of the process, for some reason the recruiters dealing with me have kept changing around 6 different ones each time the old one ghosts me. Anyway I may have mentioned my salary at the start but I mentioned something much lower then I wanted to because I was on the spot and did not want to price myself out, so will the salary question get raised at the on-site stage, or shall I say something now, or (what I am intending to do) just attend the on-site smash the interviews the best I can then wait for them to come back to me and then negotiate the salary, the only problem with the last one is they may come with such a low offer that I would need to ask them for a 50% increase in negotiation, what shall I do?

Thank u Mr. Marty, What if the salary is satisfying considering the whole package, should we negotiate just to show we're not desperate, or accept the offer immediately?
@JohnMarty-uncommon5 жыл бұрын
Always negotiate. It’s worth your time! The worst they can say is no, but the reality is that they are expecting you to negotiate!

Hey Marty. Is it typical to negotiate just for the heck of it? So many articles/videos say money is left on the table. I’m conflicted. I’m not exactly entry level but I’ve also never held the title for the role I have been offered. I hadn’t signed anything confirming my acceptance of the role. How do you decide if you need to ask for more. I’m feeling insecure comparing what the market pays to their offer because it makes me think I’m being paid less. (That sounds negative for some reason) Their offer is doable to me because it covers everything I need and the benefits are great. Do you deal with this?
@industryliaison5 жыл бұрын
Also I haven’t been talking to a recruiter. It’s a start up so I’ve been talking to the manager I’ll be working under.
@JohnMarty-uncommon5 жыл бұрын
Hey China, apologies for the delay! I always negotiate. I know it feels funny, but if you spend a little time to craft the right case it’s worth it! The worst they can do is say no.
@JohnMarty-uncommon5 жыл бұрын
Either way. Recruiter or manager. I still negotiate. Make a solid case with one of the pieces of leverage I lay out in the negotiation video. They will respect that you at least tried!
