I hate how the "stylist" give everyone the same style instead of teaching people how to make their own aesthetic look more fashionable. Exactly! The show would be way more interesting if they worked within the person's fashion sense and tried to make it look more aesthetically pleasing to the person wearing it. There would be more variety in outfits for this show and I think it would be cool to see so many different fashion choices showcased with just a few tweaks. YOU CAN BE MUSCULAR AND FEMININE. Vicki deserved real style tips, not a lesson in how to cover herself up. She's a beautiful, strong woman, who worked for her body- it's a shame to only compliment her when it's all put away. REAL style tips for someone with this body shape who comes in wanting help dressing more feminine (which is what she did) would include things like this: wear shirts and dresses that cinch in at the smallest part of your waist, and define it with a belt. It helps accentuate the hourglass figure, and draw the eye away from broad shoulders. You DON'T have to cover up or hide muscular arms to be feminine!!!
@pastelbaek3 жыл бұрын
thank you for this comment. I’m not muscular but I do feel like my shoulders are very broad and i do like being reminded of these tips. Thank you for not making people with similar body shapes to mine feel ashamed for something we can’t control!
@emmalake16533 жыл бұрын
@@pastelbaek your body shape is beautiful, and absolutely feminine. Victorian style included early examples of dresses that exposed both shoulders, as these types of sleeves made it difficult for women to do much more than sit and embroider or sip on their tea. Broad shoulders were sought after as an alluring characteristic of femininity, and they showed those things off! Style is constantly changing, and different body types will move in and out of fashion. However, true femininity really shows through only one thing- YOU! It's all about how you use what you've got, YOU are what makes you feminine. ♥️

She said in a podcast that she had to dress in a way that would make her look relatable and safe to approach, so she basically was instructed to wear those items. I think the outfits are terrible, horrible, really bad. Even considering the fashion at the time. Take for example the yellow jacket outift. So we have bright yellow, turquoise shoes, a huge black bag, and if I remember a very somber and muted blue and green dress underneath? There's no matching going on whatsoever. The general rule of thumb is three colours at most in an outfit and one has to be a neutral. They almost never use solid colours, even though that should really be the majority of your wardrobe. I won't argue too much with the silhouettes, but apparently everyone should be wearing wrap dresses and high heels, which is not everyone's style. Also, and I can't stress this enough, there is NO consideration for age on this show. A 22 year old shouldn't have to dress like a 32 year old. They're basically still teenagers. Let them wear jeans and crop tops. Or mini skirts or more involved styles like lolita or punk. I honestly think I'd be a good host for this show, haha. I love fashion and helping others REFINE their style, not just stuffing them into acceptable after-office drinks wrap dresses with costume jewelry

What not to wear always reminded me of going shopping with my mom for school clothes and she would force me to try on these outfits that “looked nice“ and I would just smile uncomfortably and hope that she didn’t make me buy them. And when she did they were in the back of my closet never to be touched again.

This is why I like Stacy’s newer show “Love Lust or Run”. She actually uses their personal style to influence her styling

I heard from somebody who was on the show that the hosts only interact with the person for the exact amount of time that we see in the episodes, otherwise they'd disappear and it was just other staff. Don't know if that's 100% but y'know

Dude I’m watching this high and I’m like 90% sure this is just an SNL skit and in no way is meant to be taken seriously. You cannot convince me this is real.

Picking out outfits that YOU would wear and handing them to your client does not make you a personal stylist or a fashion expert. It is about looking at your client and understanding what would flatter them, while maintaining their identity and showcasing their personality. In this show, they all become run of the mill, bland, watered down versions of the woman that fronts it. That jumpsuit was cool! Imagine an afro and some platform heels, late 60s revival.

Omg the demin jumpsuit was great. She just needed some accessories. This show takes away their style and makes them into corporate worker clones. Jeez, they could take elements and incorporate "modern" trends.

I was a kid throughout the 2000s so idk but- is this like-This can’t have all been normal adult clothing it’s...It’s all so boring and awful. I don’t really remember all the adults around me dressing so badly.

Why did I think this show was so cool when I was in high school?
@nol63823 жыл бұрын
I thought that people come there to make they’re style better eg: I like tomboy things so you find tomboy things that looks good together or whatever. Why do they all look like the same client leaving? I personally think that some of the outfits the contestants come in with looks better than how they left.

What Not to Wear wasn't super terrible in its own time but it had aged terribly in its hyper judgmental attitudes, and also looking back on it now I'm amazed at how every outfit in every show, every one, always looks like it came entirely from Macy's, every single piece including jewellery and purses. And I even enjoy shopping at Macy's a bit, but jeez, I don't want to look like I came directly from their catalog. Blaaaand!!

She could definitely pull off a big yellow drop shoulder wool coat. I think it is actually really stylish. It is just that this particular coat was too bulky and seemed too big rather than oversized... It looked like it came from a thrift shop and it was the only coat they had and she was in dire need of one.

Okay I’m late to the party but I have real actual beef with how they treated that bodybuilder girl, specifically how they scoffed at her requesting Victorian clothing. Female bodybuilders and strongwomen were very much a thing in the Victorian era, and not only were these ladies ripped to hell but they were gorgeous and extremely feminine! The fact that they didn’t even try to listen to her request and dismissed her when she asked about it just pisses me off to no end. Alright rant over
