I think there's a difference between being bad at cooking and almost poisoning people. Like, being bad at cooking is a skill issue, and it gets better with practice. You learn how much of a spice to use, how long to cook certain things, what goes together well. Poisoning people is a knowledge issue. You need to actively seek information to fix that. You don't learn over time that chicken needs to be cooked through - at least not without a few human sacrifices.
