This was the best representation ever of the ombre/balayage difference This channel is of an absolutely high standard, and yet totally down to earth. Absolutely realistic and super professional!!! For me the best channel so far when it comes to being a hairdresser. And here on KZbin there are a lot of channels about hair etc. Thank you that you exist. A 1000-fold enrichment!!!! :)

That was the very best description I’ve ever heard James!! I’ve also done this with 3 different shades. (4/7/9). When I have used 2 shades (especially on bright blondes) I’ve always started with the lightest color apply all over the hair and then go back with the darker shade and apply at the roots and blend like crazy, because I didn’t want splotches in my ends. But, I’ll try this instead. Love your teaching techniques. Look forward to your videos every week!! Stay safe and healthy!! 🙏🏼💗

Thank you for another very interesting and informative video. I am beginning to understand why my hairdresser guides me towards certain techniques instead of the ones I ask for (but which aren't necessarily suitable for my hair!) and why she gives me a ticking off if I have been dabbling with a box dye in between salon visits. I’m confused,I’ve watched other education videos and they teach that bayalage is the technique and ombré is the result! Could you clarify that please?watching from the U S in quarantine and love your videos❤️
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Great question in actual fact it’s just too different looks done with two different techniques and Balyage has more light pieces that are closer to the root And more dimension throughout and if you’re talking about traditional Balyage then not all the ends are painted either. and an ombre fades from dark to light hence the word translating in Spanish from dark to light And hombre is defined by the fact that all the ends are light as well. What I would say is where the confusion would lie is because there are now hybrids of both of these techniques out there 😁👍🏻

Amazing and informative! Thank you so much! One question, if you don't mind. My friend has a pretty low contrast balayage (wanted an ombre). Her roots are about level 5. We are going to try changing it to ombre with a bit more contrast (level four at roots). This would require bleaching/toning the ends as well as dyeing the roots and pulling them down in some spots where the balayage goes higher. Would you recommend doing it all at once and blending the color over the bleach or do one step (say the bleach on the ends) and then pulling down to roots with the darker shade? Thanks again! Amazing video!
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie thank you for your question glad you enjoyed the video. Difficult for me to answer this one concisely on a comment on KZbin but I would say the rules apply the dark you take the route the more contrast your create therefore she will have more contrast so is it necessary to bleach in town in the end I can’t be the judge of that as I can’t see what the ends look like at the moment I would probably start by just doing the route stretch taking her down to a level four and seeing if that creates enough contrast for her
@chantelle99884 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the very informative video. Always enjoy them. I was wondering if your client had greys in regrowth (level 7) and lighter ends from hair color and bleach, can you blend a permanent into a demi perm. color? I appreciated the thought of looking to the future and how it will be more difficult to break through the perm color in the future appointment. Is there a demi you like because it can cover grey (fine hair texture) say up to 50%? On the other thought of when to use each technique, I feel like the balayage would tend to help make a fine thinner hair appear a bit thicker than the ombre, even if worn straight. Thanks again!!
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it Chantelle, so on a level seven if you’re using permanent colour it’s not going to create a huge barrier when it comes to lightning it again later. Loriell Dia Riches covers grey pretty well I found in the past Whenever you use Demi permanent To Cover grey hair you would generally want to look at extending the development time. Yes you’re exactly right the texture that Ann Balayage creates will always add more dimension to find her 👍🏻😁

Well yes and no you couldn’t really do the technique on dark hair but depending on how dark it was because you need the depth at the root to create the contrast between the roots in the end if you were going to create this technique and dark hair you would probably want to use bleach and use the Balyage technique

I’m going to be bleaching my friends hair with the balayage technique so we can dye it blue. She’s around a level 5-6 should I use 20 volume developer with bleach powder or 30 volume? If I use 20 volume do I have more time to apply it to all of her hair to get her to a light blonde? And do I need to place foils between each layer or is it not really needed? Would it be better to use bleach with developer or lightner with the developer too?
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Personally if you’re going to dye it blue I would definitely be using 30 volume because you are going to need quite a lot of left because if you put blue onto a yellow lift you will get a blue green result and I would probably say to cover your sections so that one you get maximum left and two To avoid pressing on the sections beneath as you said 😁👍🏻

Hi if someone is a level 4 base and just want dimension is it enough after lifting hair to a level 5 with lightner to use a Redken EQ5NA toner? Or will it not notice? They just want subtle but noticeable. Thank you.
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean it would be very very subtle one shade of contrast is not very visible better to go for two shades of contrast to get a visible end result and if you put 5NA onto very warm here you are going to still have quite warm result at the end if you want a cooler end result then I would aim to lift to a 6 and tone with a 5NA same if you want a level 6 result lift to a 7 Hope that helps all the best James

Just a quick question. Lockdown has forced people to go longer between colour. So in this technique for instance, the darker will end up at least 2 inches further down than usual. Is this going to create a problem? Just thinking about where you initially apply your darker tint.... hopefully that makes sense

Hi james, if a client is naturally dark and fancies of ombre, would you still apply semi-permanent to root/mid area? Many thanks for your fantastic videos. You are the best educator that I have watched!

Good question not necessarily it all depends on the technique I would say that if you’re going to use a backcombing technique then you may not need to do a root colour however if you’re going to do a technique that doesn’t have that came in it then I would recommend doing a root stretch of some description just to ensure that you get a perfect blend 😁👍🏻

For the standard ombre....do you technically need that middle color? Or can just blend?
