Look I know this vid is many years old but is there any way to recover one of these drives when it fails to respond to the power source? I was about to take it apart until I read that once you do it has to be formatted. Why can't I just hook it up and read it?

You should be able to hook it to a SATA port and read everything if the hard drive is still in good shape

Anyone that wants to try this, make sure you back up whatever is in your drive before turning it into an internal HDD. It will not recognize the hard drive if you plug it in with SATA, it will require a format before you can use it.

@@longxie3577 Formatting a hard drive is basically wiping it clean of all the data that's on there (but not completely, still recoverable with software and time), that's why I said back up the drive before you format it. I tried converting it into an internal one but did not want to back up 3TBs of data. So I went with an external enclosure, which was much easier. www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Lay-Flat-Docking-EC-DFLT/dp/B00LS5NFQ2/ Only reason for this was the stupid dock (shown at 0:05) was shot.

Sushi I took the 3T HDD out of the box and plug it into PC connected with SATA as an internal one. but PC could not recognize it ！when it is placed back to the dock as an external hdd，it works as well as before. what i want is to use the 3T hdd as an internal one inside of pc.
