Hi, Mike! I'm trying to solve a problem here but if no success. Watching your video made me think that maybe this is happening because I still use LR 5.7, and the photos I´m importing are from new devices. There are some photos that appear with an exclamation mark inside a black circle. LR says they are damaged, but when I check at windows explorer they show just fine. I guess mainly are WhatsApp photos, jpegs. I could see with mp4s files this problem doesn´t show this way. I'm guessing now if this could be happening because all file data is taken when we put a photo in WhatsApp. Have you ever faced this exclamation mark problem? Do you know how to solve it? Thanks! :)

Hi Themis, I usually see the exclamation mark when I have moved the photos from their original location and lightroom can't find the originals. check this video out for how to reconnect them to the source file. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipCtnZKbbcmmnJo I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍

I hate the sub model... I do support the company, I've paid $700 in the past for photoshop and 100's to upgrade to new versions, as well as buying premiere, dreamweaver and Lightroom. Paying every month for this stuff just really annoys me. Also I jumped on CC Photoshop at a friends house to show him some stuff and half the keyboard commands are totally different which is the only way I use it, I don't hardly even know where the stuff is in the menus.. Regardless its clearly not going to change, and while the DNG is an option, it makes double the hard drive space unless you want to delete your raw files which I have a hard time doing, and if you are shooting a large event thats just even more time sitting around waiting before you can actually get work done. Just having a new camera with raw 3 now its like Adobe just has me by the balls its either take more time to get work done and use more hard drive space or pay them every month.

I downloadedAdobe's DNG converter to convert my Sony's ARW files, but i am finding that the converter darkens the images like crazy. In camera, the photos were exposed properly, but when I brought the DNG files into lightroom, they were very dark. I had to increase the exposure slider by a whopping 2.4, and bring the shadows and blacks up by 61 and 49 respectively - to get an image that looked properly exposed....
@uhoh75412 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure out a fix to this? I didn't have any specific issues like you, but I'm a nikon user and my DNG files were quite smaller than the original RAW. I assumed there was some image quality loss somewhere. I've been playing with capture one and darktable, but still don't feel i have the editing control using LR with my old camera.

Too bad my Imac with system 10.6.8 can't handle any of this. Even Lightroom 3.0. My problem is it's loaded with paid for Adobe apps and music sequencing apps and files. And upgrading the system for some reason has been problematic. I would love an external drive with a later system to load later apps on that I could bounce converted files back to the old system. But even that has proved problematic. A few weeks ago even my Google Drive stopped being nice to me.

Good answer, Mike, all-be-it with a not so gentle (“that’s the way it is”) shove to the subscription model; “Minefield Mike” ventures into explosive 💣 territory😁. Man the ramparts! 😂 A hat-tip acknowledgement of other nonsubscription editors (open source and license purchase) would have been only fair, in my opinion. To each his own when it comes to editing software (cost/budget, value, marketing principles, and features being factors). Several very capable editors have emerged and matured since Adobe moved to subscription. Lots of YT tutorials, on them, too (hint, hint). If my count is correct, 6 of your 166 YT posts have been about PS/LR. My hunch is that folks still using older versions of LR have good reasons. Too bad DNG did not take hold widely, the way (say) Adobe’s PDF document standard did; a few cam companies (Pentax, Leica, Casio, Samsung, and Richo have models w/native DNG format)🤔. File conversions risk IQ loss - editing/outcome comparisons might make for a good vid. 🧯

Haha!! I thought I'd light the fuse and see what happens!! 😆 I do have a few other videos coming out soon on alternatives to lightroom...just testing them out at the moment so I don't miss anything. I was really annoyed when they first switched to the subscription model...I didn't subscribe for a long time, but I found it quite hard to switch to a new editing program, especially in the midst of a flurry of jobs to do...so I ended up biting the bullet and signing up... There are some fantastic alternatives out there now, and I think they were probably spurred on by the Adobe subscription model and have really matured since then...😀👍 Out of interest, what do you edit in?
@paulm81574 жыл бұрын
Mike Smith I, too, took the easy way out 🙄and subscribed to the LR/PS editors, rather than learn something new, though I don’t use cloud image storage or tablet versions. I’ve been following On 1 YT posts with great interest - they appear to be catching up to Adobe. Am tempted to climb the learning curve. Anyway, it’s interesting how several major YT hosts are posting vids covering multiple editors. Surprisingly, a few free iOS and Android based editors (Snapseed and PicsArt) do layers, curves, selections, and amazing photo manipulations - well worth a look see. Look forward to your posts, Mike.

I really really don't want to update from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and the latest version of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom will not work with anything less than Windows 10, annoyingly. After installing and uninstalling various previous versions of Lightroom and Photoshop I finally got them working on Windows 8.1 by using PS CC 2017 1.6 and Lightroom Classic CC 7.01. Just went out and took my first RAW images and to my horror i'm getting the dreaded "The files cannot be opened by Lightroom" error message when I try to import them. I would have thought Lightroom 7.01 would be nw enough to handle A7III raw files no? Such a pain in the bum! I've seen people solve this by updating Lightroom but I'm fairly certain Lightroom Classic CC 7.01 is the latest version Windows 8.1 can run, if anyone knows different please let me know! If I use this method by converting to DNG will I lose image quality? I'm trying to take detailed landscape astrophotography shots. Thanks for the video Mike!

Specially after saving up for over 10 years so I could buy my first pro camera (Nikon D780) in December and today a Tamron 24-70 G2 lens. I can not afford insane bullshit prices! I sold a single photo as 10 Euro's and that was 5 years ago. Sticking with a older program is kinda the last option as there is no other option available. You can't spend 100 A bloody month if there is no money for it! I am not even done with getting new gear! I still need other lenses and other things to make this work! I can't be spending money on a darned program for 100 a bloody month! That's insane! I am NOT rich!

This is the unfortunate reality of the world we live in. 9.99 a month?? lol now calculate the cost over several years and add to that Adobe having total control over the software you use, including the ability to turn it off just like they have done to some legitimate users already. Oh, and facts are facts, it's not anger.
@mikesphotography3 жыл бұрын
Unless it's open source, every company has a certain amount of control over the software they build and produce. All in all, I think adobe do a good job and give us some excellent tools to work with. Could they do a better job? Probably...Could they charge less? Definitely... but when they employ over 22,000 people and have the vast number of programs that they do available for us, I think that's a pretty reasonable price... obviously it varies from country to country but the photo package is only the cost of two beers a month where I live...
@klarion3 жыл бұрын
@@mikesphotography Adobe can cut off anyone at any time if they wish. They have already done so. Adobe doesn't give users the ability to permanently opt out of updates. Standalone software does. You simply can decide not to upgrade... I think you understand what I'm saying. It's not an arguable point unless a person CHOOSES not to take that into consideration. I'm not arguing which is best for anyone other than me... Adobe can do what they wish, but I will never ever use software, which will not allow me to operate it unless I periodically check in with the landlord. It's a personal pet peave.
