How to open your bmw e60 trunk without a key or a bad/dead/no battery

Ever wonder how to open the trunk in an e60?
Sometimes it’s not as simple as hitting a button. Especially when your car is missing it’s power source such as a hood battery. Well you’d think you can just use your key? Correct if you have one 😂
Get yourself a good power source a pair of jumper cables or alligator cable clips. A pair of skinny flat heads and jump the connector that actuated the trunk.

Two other ways for those not electronically inclined: 1. on this model which has a keyhole on the back, if you do have the key after all, rotate it extra hard, counterclockwise. 2. On other E60 cars that don’t have the keyhole, open both rear doors, pull off the back seat with a firm tug from the middle. It pops right out. There is a ring shaped pull tab under some wiring. Pull it hard without hurting the wiring. Trunk will pop right open.

I just had the same situation and this video is really good but would have taken me a long time to get done, so instead i used a different car battery and jump leads and the boot opened up, far more simple in my opinion

E39 has an interior boot release. Much that I like my E60 it's one of the things of quite a few that really annoys me about it.

im hella weak! essentially yes but any power source will work. if you're super tech savvy you can rig up a power bank if you just came back from Starbucks to your dead car haha and have some wire.

Hello MAKS KAYY, Just closed my trunk, 30 minutes ago because I am jacking the car up for service, and the trunk was going to hit the garage door. My battery is disconnected at the negative terminal so no support there. Options: 1) Can still go through the rear fold-down seats and pull the "escape lever" 2) Power the system from the jump post and a good ground. Why do you not think this will work? Please advise. Mr. P E60/M5 (repairing rear diff leak and alternator)

Just finished alternator and needed into the trunk. Did not have an old battery to "buffer" a charger so went with option "B" Bend a coat hanger and go the the "ski sack" access to the trunk and pull the "escape handle". Opened in less than 2 minutes of trying. Much easier than trying to power a pin a proposed in video and risk the system. NOTE: Also did not have external key option for trunk as my vehicle is 2008 (they stopped using manual key access to trunk). Mr. P

Some cars don’t have trunk access through the rear seat. And again although your method does sound far easier than mine. Mine is just the alternative

@@MAKSKAYY Not sure I understand Q: I am actually an automotive wiring engineering. It should be possible to "back feed" all power from the front jump terminals to the full system. That being stated, would like to add a battery or other "buffer" vs just using a charger at high amps. Love this type of feedback/info and please keep us all informed.

How do you jump a car that doesn’t have the battery connected or has a battery so dead that it may have internal issues within the battery itself not closing the circuit for which your jumping attempt wouldn’t work. Tried that. Nothing happened

This is dumb. Hook the battery up to the leads under the hood and hot the trunk button on the drivers side kick panel

Doesn't work without a battery connected to the rear. That only works if you have a dead battery.

@@juggnautbitch I have a 04 545i and an 06 m5 (broken, looking for a motor) but the trunk button still works lol. Works for both of them. maybe you didn’t have a good enough connection or something.
