I didn't realize that hiding a channel is one way to control notifications. Did I understand that correctly?

Yes, this should be the primary way 👍

@MeeTime Given that's the case, I would be less concerned about having too many channels than about not having enough, since the latter reduces the potential for team members to be granular in filtering out unwanted content.
