I absolutely love throwing leg kicks, it really helps in a lot of ways, f.e. by putting your opponent flat on their feet. Important thing about them to remember is that it's not the one kick that does it; inflicting damage over time is what does the trick. Great video Champ!

I'm new to this, and I appreciate the instruction... I'm just wondering though, you've said to kick like you're chopping down, but in your execution of the kicks, it looks like you're going sideways??? Also... you talk about "kicking above the just above the knee to end the fight," but I saw a response to a comment about it not being about one kick, but repeated kicks, so I'm wondering how effective the kick above the knee really is to actually end a fight?

Is it deliberate that there's little hip rotation, ie, body torque behind the kick? 99% of MMA fighters just seem to slap the leg out there.
@trusy_navalnova5 жыл бұрын
Not turning your hips over (dutch style) does limit your power but it can be quicker and allows you to regain your stance, good for combinations. Here's a video by FightTips on variations of the low kick: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3S8e5l8hLh2otE
@trusy_navalnova5 жыл бұрын
But TJ's footwork is so sophisticated that he manages to land thai-style leg kicks with the same benefits.
@Octavus55 жыл бұрын
@@trusy_navalnova Sure, it "can" be quicker, assuming that's what you're going for. But I'm not sure most MMA fighters have that in mind. Mostly, it seems to be poor form.
@AP-WhatsUp5 жыл бұрын
Hey TJ how do you kick down on an opponents leg that is taller than you? Would it be okay to kick straight into their leg in this scenario. I feel like trying to kick at a downward angle, when there is a big discrepancy in height would make your kick a bit slower.

Always wondered why didn´t Jose Aldo just slay McGregor legs with his vicious Thai kicks instead of going in a straight line against him, wild swinging and exposing his chin. Proper leg kicks are no joke. Bro I´m training my leg kicks the way you say, blinding my opponent with my rear hand, it´s better that way, thanks my man.
@theboltthrower86615 жыл бұрын
@IVEY 96 Yeah XD, they didn`t prepare him psychologically in order to be inmune to McGregor`s mental warfare… It`s like the dumb coaches told Jose, "AWW GO FOR THE kILL" instead of being pragmatic and design a good gameplan to beat McGregor. I`ve had this discussion with some buddies and some of them say Aldo didn`t throw a kick as he was afraid of a takedown, which is dumb, cause McGregor is not a grappler, I think Conor got too much into Aldo`s head that he made him forget he is a Muay Thai fighter, instead he fought like a drunk idiot and got koed. If he used his thai leg kicks he would have done definitely better against Conor.
@trusy_navalnova5 жыл бұрын
It's really weird that he has stopped throwing leg kicks considering it was one of his best weapons. He probably has an injured hip from so many years of competition.
@honigdachs.5 жыл бұрын
What's interesting is that McGreor never got leg kicked a lot. Apparently it's not an obvious option against a guy with a weird stance and very good distance management.
@theboltthrower86615 жыл бұрын
@@trusy_navalnova Perhaps that´s the reason, but in the McGregor fight, he was just too emotional, that´s why his fight IQ got lower and fought like an idiot. I still wonder what was Aldo´s camp gameplan against Conor. Cause, for example, in Masvidal vs Askren fight, one can tell Askren was going for a takedown, Masvidal capitalized that and BWALA!!! The flying knee KO XD.
@theboltthrower86615 жыл бұрын
@@honigdachs. Yeah, it´s like the "Conor Effect" lowers his opponents fighting IQ, LMAO, for real, you just can´t trade hands with Conor, UNLESS, you´ve got a zombie chin like Nate Diaz or you´re just a psychopathic "superhuman" trained killer like Khabib, rest of Conor´s opponents just try to go toe to toe with him and end up fucked up, I thought Cowboy was gonna chop Conor legs, but nope…just another guy who forgot his Muay Thai (Or kickboxing) arsenal. A dream striking match for me would be Buakaw Banchamek vs Conor McGregor.
