I hope you don't mind a second comment. When I follow artists and or teachers they all are good at showing me how to get paint on a canvas but there's more depth to your teaching. I'm learning more than what color to select or what brush to use. I'm learning how to see things differently and how not to try and be a camera. Its me that I'm putting on the canvas and I'm feeling good about my work and myself. Thank you for that.

Firstly, thank for sharing you knowledge so openly and freely and allowing us to watch the whole painting process from beginning to end. Being an expat Brit living in Australia, I find your paintings evocative and haunting.I have to say that I was not at all shocked, but glad to see you do something at the end of this video that I find myself doing very often!! Also it brought the scene back to a tranquillity and stillness. Thank you again for everything you give. Helen G

I have been watching your videos for over a year now. I use to paint all the time but that was over 20 years ago. I've always wanted to learn how to loosen up but I seem to always get caught up in detail so I thought I would try and follow along with you on this lesion. I wish I could post a picture of what I painted but you aren't set up for that. I will continue to watch all your videos as I've learned a lot already but I still have a way to go before I'm as free as you are. We love you here in the US. Please don't stop teaching.

It's so neat that you mentioned looking at fields as you drive. I first saw the "rows" you mention, from the air, as I was flying to Germany and we stopped over at London. I was so fascinated by the fields in England before we landed and as we took off. They looked like patchwork quilts to me and were laid out in such perfect squares! I was in love with your native country and part of my heritage! Thank you for this lesson.

Another fascinating journey in to the mind of Stuart Davies. The thing I have learnt the most is that to be good or indeed great, you have to fail. No fuss, no bother, just wipe away the failure and start again, whether the whole painting or a part of it. Perhaps it is the journey in laying down the paint that is most important rather than the finished scene. Perhaps, when I start to paint, I will never achieve 'greatness', perhaps I shall just enjoy myself. Perhaps I need to start ;) Thank you Stuart.

The memory thing, Stuart !! Yes, I remember every face I've ever seen... I used to think everybody did it. It's only in the past decade that I've realised all people don't operate on a visual level. And yes, I was speaking to an ex a few months back about dreams (she had asked the same question) - I said that most images I make (with a camera or paint) come from dreams and imaginings... she said she'd never had a dream!! I was astounded...literally nearly dropped the phone! Really enjoying your laid back style; I think your videos should be prescribed on the NHS as saviours of mental health.

Hello Stuart from the USA again. I want to share the fact that I also have scenes in my head that I have seen some years ago also. Things by themselves that have stirred me somehow. Some sky’s, and water although I’d have to live to 2 hundred to do them justice but they are there just as vivid as the moment I saw them, or it. I find your verbal explanations as good as how you’re working the paint on the canvas. Love watching you. Bye

Grandpa - I have seen many of your videos. Recently, the painting gods bestowed me with some plywood. So I gave it a shot, using strictly your lessons/techniques. It turned out okay, though a few people saw it and were blown away. But I digress... This is perhaps your best video thus far. Don't get me wrong, they are all great! I pray one day to meet and learn from you in person! I also pray this current timeline is truly the global reset and arrest of those who do evil and promote fear. For, if it is ---- we may have the chance to paint landscapes of other planets, in person!!! Life extension technology and interstellar travel are literally right around the corner!!!!!!!

Oh woaw...amazing Painting, again! I once made a painting and I was never really happy with it. I stared at it again and again, for alomst 10 years, and then suddenly I knew what I wanted to do. Makes me wonder if a painting ever can be finished, or if we just decide to leave it like it is at a certain stage... I'm fascinated with how people's brains work. I don't have an eidetic memory, sadly, but I can visualize everything I want. My dreams are vivid and sometimes lucid so I can controll them. But I also have a show in my head when I go to sleep which makes it hard to fall asleep at all... I have a friend who says that he thinks abstracty. That's something I cannot imagine because it's not meant as a picture.. Interresting anyway!. I'm curious for the next video!

Hi Stuart, I just came across this video you made about two years ago. Very interesting to see how you developed this scene using light and dark areas to create a contrast that gives the impression of depth and distance in a painting. To use your words "creating the illusion of paint". This is a lovely scene and realistic of the countryside at large. You make it seem so easy to paint such a scene, but then that is why you are the master of your style of art I really love your blending of amazing skies complete with added drama. Fantastic to watch.

The ball catching analogy was perfect. When I used to play cricket, I used to drop simple catches because I was trying too hard to focus, where as close catches which are much tougher and based on reflex and timing even the once which required diving, came easy to me. Because my mind didn't have time to overthink.
