Thank you so much for this! The techniques you share are so easy and today's color mixing with gouache, just use a larger brush and mainly plops and swipes is super terrific for me....a forever newbie, who struggles with everything, can't wait to try. I have the Meeden set and some cheap Michael's brand 'Artists Loft' gouache but it will have to do for now. Love your studio view. Mine is other mobile homes (caravans across the pond?) and traffic. Your interior is quite cozy and nice to be able to put faces to the names that you often mention of your critter menagerie. Have a wonderful weekend! WOW! I love this painting and it was glorious watching you paint. I am pleased that despite being awakened at quarter to 5, your mood and cheerful discussion throughout this video has given me great inspiration. I look forward to trying out this loose type painting soon. Thank you for sharing this and your ideas about adding gouache were brilliant. Funny you should mention some painters use of small glass(s) and that one needs a large vessel of water. I agree hardily. I recently acquired 2 (I'm afraid I've forgotten the brand, but mine are large with colorful collars for both the top for holding brushes and the bottom which has a lip to catch water droplets from the brushes. I have a purple one and now a green one, but I really wish they'd had a pink one-Ha. Both collars are made of silicone and the bottom helps my jars not move around easily as I have a tendency to sweep the water off my table. I enjoyed your tour around the studio. Everyone has different storage solutions and sometimes I adopt one or more. I especially like to store things in see through bins (I make journals, watercolors, play with alcohol inks, and love to do mixed media collage with acrylic paintings), so I can at-a-glance find the item I was looking for easily. So I have mounds of papers all over the place and too many other supplies. I couldn't even use all of them up in a lifetime. My problem is loving nearly every art form and having to get supplies for each. But I did finally stop buying new forms of art to try a long while ago (except I did buy the same Meeden set that you have--one for me and the other for my great grandson. He loves sculpture both non drying and oven cooked and they are amazing and very detailed. I was so impressed with his talents, that I have been sending him supplies (mostly mine) regularly. I realized that I loved watercolors more than anything else and find it relaxing which is soothing. I just found a block of Baohong Academy paper hiding amongst some old palettes-Ha. I'd already prepared a piece of Strathmore watercolor paper using wash tape to tape it to my glass mat. It's 12X9", but the Baohong is about 7X5" and I think I'll also enjoy that size. I know and have the best Arches papers, yet it is very expensive and I'm a little precious about it. I definitely plan to get over that! Thank you being one of my favorites on KZbin and I shall continue to delight in your videos. If flowers are your favorite subjects (certainly understandable as they are soooo beautiful and fun to paint), I want to just mention your amazing freehand drawings of animals doing things and your subsequent paintings--cute and realistic birds, rabbits, squirrels, and more. Please consider a new painting involving animals. How about animals and flowers together with the former being mischievous in the flowers?-Ha. I love my chickadee coffee cup. XOXOJANE
@DianeAntoneStudio Жыл бұрын
Hi Jane and thanks so much for your fascinating message! Yes, you’re right, I have been neglecting the animals lately and it’s time to get back to them. I am on it! The amount of supplies we all accumulate is worrying. As I sit here I am literally surrounded by things that I can never hope to use up - we were just discussing the paint issue, how people buy “handmade” paint just like they might buy eyeshadow they only use once… it’s just ridiculously wasteful. No wonder the planet is exhausted and there’s no more nourishment left in the ground. We have dug it all up and thrown it away. Anyway, enough of that. I’m so glad you have a great grand who likes creativity, that’s a comfort, and as far as the paper goes, I always say “it’s just a piece of paper” and I don’t care what fancy name it has. I’m on a mission to use all mine up. I had an artist friend who left me a vast amount of paper when he died. I burnt a lot of it (because he’d painted on one side of it) and the rest is waiting its turn to be used. Yes, it’s a long story! Glad you have good water containers - people don’t always realise how important water is in WATERcolor painting!! Thanks again and so glad you love your coffee mug!!! I’m off now to paint some animals!

You have such a pretty place. I've been watching your videos for awhile and loving them and noticed your struggle with your health and dog and felt to share with you what I've done to help both me and my dog. I've gone 90 percent carnivore and it has had dramatic changes on my health and my dog who is an elderly corgi. He has tumors and yeast infections and I was thinking of having him put down even as he began to be so uncomfortable. I put him on a all chicken diet ...raw chicken...leg quarters and also my other dog. Here in America, leg quarters are cheaper per pound than most dog food is. So far, the corgi, who couldn't even hardly climb stairs, is running up the stairs, barking alot more, his skin is curing! It is getting soft and supple and I noticed a diminish in tumors even and its only been about 4 weeks. Me? I have more energy and more muscle mass. I sleep so much better too and my mind isn't as foggy. I am not full carnivore or I'd probably see even better results. I eat out of garden as well but absolutely no sugar or white flour. I try and do no carb. For food, I try and eat alot of eggs and the best meat I can afford. Sometimes I thin slice pork and season it like jerky and cook it for snacks. Yum. For sweets I freeze bananas and fruit from my garden and make smoothies with stevia. I like stevia. I have tea and even use koolaid with stevia and ice for slushies. Today was ice cubes,milk, and stevia with chocolate powder a bit of vanilla and dash of salt for a chocolate shake...yum. I've lost weight, my mind is clearer, I'm sleeping better and I feel better and am getting more done. I noticed the heat doesn't bother me as much either which is amazing! I hope this is encouraging and helpful to you and others. I'm not a doctor so it isn't medical advice....just what I did to feel better.....and help my old dog.
@DianeAntoneStudio Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your very interesting message! I’m particularly interested in the meat diet for your dogs - we have always fed our dogs raw meat and they have always done very well on that. I have just started to give 15 year old Ruby CBD to try to calm her anxiety, and after just three days, it seems to be working. I’ve taken the opposite approach to you for my diet. My main health problem is asthma and other allergies - I am anaphylactic to many things, including bananas, avocados, chestnuts, and others, plus I’m gluten intolerant, and I have low histamine tolerance. So I eat vegetarian and only simple foods, with a minimum of carbohydrate and sugar, I cut alcohol out of my diet many years ago, I’ve never smoked, and don’t tolerate any kinds of chemicals in my diet. As far as meat goes, I used to enjoy it but I find that the meat we have available here in France is not to my liking. It suits the dogs though! It’s good that in the summer we can eat a lot of fruit and vegetables from the garden grown organically. Of course I really appreciate your input, and it’s interesting to me that such a different approach can also make you feel better. I am the same weight now that I was 20 years ago- 135lb - and if it weren’t for the allergy to grass pollen which I have in the summer I would be doing fine! Thanks so much for your support, sending you my very best wishes and congratulations on achieving good health!

@@DianeAntoneStudio Thank you so much for such a genuine, informative, and kind reply. We all certainly have our challenges in life and what works for one doesn't necessarily for another. My heart is with you in these struggles for when one does not feel good, all of life becomes daunting and it is difficult, if not impossible, to enjoy it when we suffer. While reading your reply, I thought about my my eldest brother who also had asthma. According to doctors he was not suppose to live past the age of 4 and he made it all the way into his late 50's and lived fairly well and happy, dying from heart failure, not asthma. What he discovered that helped him during pollen season was to not eat past 4:00 and to drink a lot of orange juice. He also installed an AC unit and closed his windows during this time and limited his time outdoors as much as he could but he raised cattle and put up hay so he couldn't just hide away in a sterile environment. I love your paintings and your kind ways. May God bless you always Edit: Also, Lotty (not sure I spelled that right) looks almost exactly like my other dog Willow! How cool!

No, I don‘t, although I probably should!

Gauche is that a color of white or a type of paint?
@debramontanez20 Жыл бұрын
It's a type of paint. A watercolor but not quite. Most of us use it if we need a really opaque white.

Gouache is opaque watercolor paint. It covers up mistakes you might make in a painting. Also, it’s useful for painting white details on a watercolor painting - for example, to put the white in the eye of a bird, or to put a highlight on something. Some people have sets of lots of colors, but you can start with a tube of white. It can be mixed into your ordinary watercolors to make interesting effects. Especially useful if you use tubes. Not so useful if you use pans. You can find it here: amzn.to/3PwRVDw

I keep trying to use those loose strokes but they never end up looking like flowers. Not sure what the trick is to that. 🤔

Just believe in the strokes you make. Leave them when you’ve put them down, and let them find their place on the paper. After you’ve finished, if they still look wrong, try some pen work - coloured brush pen or liner or tombow to emphasise the shapes. Most of all, just have fun!

Did I hear you right...one of the sheep is Larry?☺️

Oh yes, he is my first-born lamb. I called him Larry Lamb - of course! His arrival in the barn quite unexpectedly was one of those forever moments in my memory.

Question. Does the quash make the paint thicker? I noticed your colours are not blinding and bleeding or is it just less water?
@DianeAntoneStudio Жыл бұрын
Yes, it does thicken it, but it’s possible to vary the amount of water and get more blends and blooms if you want.
