My first hobby grade RC car I just bought is a Tamiya Lunchbox, and I decided to go with a Tamiya Candy Lime Pearl paint. I also got gold to apply under the lime for a color shift effect. I'm excited to see what I can do.

Glad you liked it! As long as the paint is on it should be fine, as the first time you take it out you will knock it about so there is no real point in being precious. I’ve painted this one again since this video 😆😂👍

We are sometime so hit up on having the latest, biggest and best of everything, we don’t always need that, sometimes, just standing back and thinking about what we are doing and can it be achieved in a more simplistic way. Simplicity is sometimes the key to a problem. Using a box as a paint booth and ensuring the area is clean and tidy and simple masking is a lot of the time, all you need. Excellent work. Some top tips there. Hadn't thought about putting the tin in a mug of hot water. With the Lunchboxes I've done I think the one that came out best was where I just sprayed the yellow directly onto the white plastic. I did one with grey primer and it took an unfeasable number of coats of yellow to cover it and didn't actually look any better. The Tamiya paint does seem to stick to the bare plastic very well. Anyway, I look forward to seeing how it turns out. Is it a Mystery Machine?

I did notice the yellow over the grey primer absorbed the paint so I’m tempted to try the white primer if I do it in classic TS-16 again. I thought that the mystery machine was light blue and not coral blue, but seems I got that wrong, it isn’t going to be a mystery machine, and I’m not thrilled by the coral blue really, but it may become a mystery machine in the future. I will be showing the current look in a couple of weeks 😉🎥

Good tips here. But i will add something. Always start your spray before hitting the object your painting, try and keep the same distance as you go back and forward, always starting the spray before you hit the object. Then repeat. Then you should not have any issues with running paint as it is applied evenly. 😊

That’s a very good point, gives a nice even coat also, nothing worse than having a run or a blob occur, can set back the whole process 👍

What about applying the clear coat over the decals?

I’ve always put clear coat over decals, I use Tamiya TS-80 and never had any issues, even with 3rd party paper based ones, makes the super hardwearing 👍

Does the lucnch box come with windows or did you cut them out

It has the windows pre cut and it comes with a plastic piece that attaches on the inside so it looks like glass. Hope this helps 👍

Just painted mine yesterday and it came out really good for my first hard shell body spray, you said in another video you sprayed clear over the stickers, was it ok no reaction with the stickers? Enjoyed your video 👊🏻👍🏻

Yes with Tamiya Decals there didn’t seem any bad reaction to going over the decals. I haven’t done it this time as they are home made and god knows what they are made out off, the clear coat is a bit like a chemical heat, so it can make things go funky if not careful

Can you use dye to color the plastic?

You can use a Nylon dye for the wheels, but you need to be careful of temperature so they don’t warp. I also have seen Hydro dipping for the bodies, that seems to work well 🤔

Nice Job, do u use a primer? I do... it fixes the paint harder on the body. And: why so difficult? Ikea (yes, all men dislike ikea) has a turning table by kitchen parts for around 7 €. It´s easier to turn without touching.

I used Tamiya primer. The turn table thingy is called a ‘Lazy Susan’ and I did have one, but threw it away when we had a flood as it was damaged, I will get one again, when I can brave IKEA again 😂😆 massive thanks for watching and commenting 👍

I tried spraying an old console. I ended up finding a tan tent was perfect. It worked a treat but my nan was in it at the time. I'm clinically blind now.

I think the only thing to use a tent for would be spraying, better than holidaying in the blasted thing!

Hi, how long did you leave it to dry between clear coats?

It really depends on the weather, you can speed it up with a hairdryer but I’d say 20 mins as the coats are quite thin 👍
