Following on from last week's video on making sheets of corrugated metal, today I show you how to paint it a realistic , weathered natural metal finish. Using 2-3 paint colours and the salt weathering technique, it's an easy trick for faded aluminium or similar. My next video will show you how to paint a rust effect, so you'll be sorted for any metal surfaces in your scale model dioramas!

Fantastic fantastic that's what I can say about this video I appreciate you taking the time to show us exactly how you took the steps to get to the end result and I look forward to seeing the next video talking about rust PS if you don't have gloves what about using two sided tape on a board so you don't get paint on your hands

Very nice! I would have used some blue masking tape rolled up and stuck them all to a cardboard sheet to spray.

I like this method. What about using a really fine grain salt--almost a powder? Seems just a wee bit out of scale with the course ground salt.

These scale models are just wonderful, Dave!..Best on the planet..You should do me a 1/12(6 inch) version of the Rip Curl Bells Trophy..as I intend to do another surfdiorama of Jordy Smith's win at Bells in 2017..(figurine is 6 inches)..I owe you a sixpack for that (VB or XXXX?)..All the best, Ian Van Driesche

Sorry Dave, just a heads up, I've already finished the wooden 'cabinet' (probably not as good as you, but it'll pass..), All I need now is a little bell to scale..

Hi Dave, Just a quick question, could you not pre-paint the foil and the form it into the corrugated sheet...?? Many thanks... John...

J Griffiths you certainly could, but I would worry about rubbing off the paint while forming it. I’ll give it a try!

What if you were to paint the backsides with an epoxy? That would stiffen them.

might be worth trying, the corrugation was looking a little flat at the end of the process

could you get the same result with acrylics?

John Cummins absolutely. Just be careful when applying water for the salt technique, make sure your paint is well and truly dried in between steps.
